That seams obvious solution but the aluminum in these cases is paper thin and if you do not do some reinforcement it will fail soon.
So I think you have to make some bracket. Have to come up with ready made somewhere.

I considered using the stock camera mount glued to my case but I too thought it might be a little flimsy, considering the cam mount uses a quick release mechanism I didn't think it would be very stable. Guess I'll just have to try it and see! Either way it beats setting my case on the ground and kneeling down to fly!

My case has aluminum rails, but has a thin sheet plastic and board body, rather flimsy.
But I mounted the quick mount in the center, with the top tilted the weight is rather balanced and I don't use a tracker system. So as long as no one takes a swipe at it or yanks the cables too hard it will be fine. I'll take some more pictures as well.

Here's the pic I mentioned. I've since gone back and added a second case which holds the 3 viewing lenses and the 12 volt battery. This case sits on the ground underneath the tripod. So now the 2 receivers and the diversity system are all off the single 12 volt and the goggles are off of a single lipo battery.

The gear includes:

Video rx: Immersionrc duo5800
distribution: Immersionrc powerbox
dvr: Not yet in
antenna: 19db patch and 9db omni
antenna tracker: Immersionrc eztracker
power: 2 redundant 5000mah lipos

the hardest part of this build was to design and custom cnc manufacture the lexan enclosure. build log of this gs.

If you need a heavy duty tripod, these speaker tripods for use with PA systems are normally 1 1/2 inch tube.

You can get mount adapters which go underneath whatever you are mounting.
You can find them on Craigslist for $20 a tripod.

Risky business using hot glue to hold the bracket on. It seems like a good idea but what happens if the glue rips clean off the plastic? I'd drill it and screw it.

Work in progress...

But here is mine so far... still need to mount antenna's, receivers, and diversity controller to the AAT but then im pretty much done. Then ill need to devise a quick way of tearing down / building up.

Its hard to see from this picture but the ipad screen is just below eye level when I'm sitting next to the tripod and the capture device with preview screen is at eye level.
