One of my Xmass presents to my self, was a MX2, three,HS35HB's, a Hacker A10, and a new Castle9..

My two season old Osiris, has been reduced to group flights....

Im looking forward to having a fresh, and Light MX-2 in the hanger, for the rest of this years indoor season.

So far the build is very clean, and straight forward. Very sharp plane!

Making good progress! I did change the landing gear set up a bit, but other than that everything looks great! The way the directions have you do the landing gear seemed too complicated? I've had good luck with assembling fancy foam gear this way in the past.. I also Crossed over a few carbon fiber braces and wrap them with Kevlar thread for extra Strength.

Spades???

To spade or not to spade? That is the question!

Okay guys Almost done with my build, and I have a quick question. I've had minimal experience with spades, I did put them on a edge that I had, and didn't really like the way it handled. are they must have with this airframe? Or is it one of those things that's designed to help someone get used to the fact that a profile plane doesn't dip into a corner?

Do experienced pilots use them?

I am not a good pilot, but I do consider myself intermediate and well experienced.

I did not try flying it without them, so I have no true comparison; but I have flown with them and it was sooo perfect. Once I had my CG, mine required no mixing, had no coupling, and was just perfect.

I am curious how it flies without, post up if you give it a try.
RJ will likely chime in here, I would believe he tried the MX2 without them during the development of this plane and he might be able to shed some light in terms of a direct comparison.

Spades all the way! I fly them on all of my MX's. It'll fly fine without them, but it will sit a little differently in the air and you'll need a different CG to eliminate knifeedge coupling. This airplane is tuned for those spades and it should have no coupling at what I consider the correct CG. Give them a try!

That landing gear setup will work just fine too. I just prefer to mount the gear legs to the back side of the gear leg strip, as I think it makes the gear a bit more stable. It's really your preference though!

mx2 maiden

finally got around to putting this plane together. only two flights so far. my son really likes it. here is a short video clip of the initial hover test. hope to do some airbrushing now and and record some outdoor flights when the weather improves. this is the first indoor type plane i've built and it was not as hard as i thought it would be. i even did the pull pull rudder and i think that's easier than running a pushrod!

yes a sky cart is on our list for future foamie projects. recorded two outdoor flights of the mx2 this afternoon. one flight is on a two cell and the second flight is on a three cell. i'm going to attempt airbrushing tomorrow!
