Nobody in it. I'm praying the kid just went down the street to play video games with a friend and never was in it at all.

I don't actually know that. I guessed that, based on how the first responders were treating the balloon when it landed. The initial efforts seemed to be to preserve the scene. Subsequent treatment of the balloon indicated they did not believe it to contain a child from the moment it landed.

That leaves two possibilities: The child was never in the balloon; the child fell from the balloon.

Confirmed? Or just deduced since he wasn't there upon touchdown? There's the possibility it was a hoax from the get-go, that balloon looks pretty small to lift even a 6 year old.

Maybe he accidently let the balloon get away, and ran off because he figured he'd catch it from the folks?

Probably, better check the basement, under the bed, down the street.

Evidently, someone in Ft Collins say they think they saw something fall out of it.

The family was on wifeswap supposedly.

He is apparently a storm chaser, kids name is Falcon.

http://abc.go.com/shows/wife-swap/ep.../132697?page=1

From the ABC page.

If conditions are right, Mayumi wakes her family by shouting "Storm Approaching, Storm Approaching!" into a bullhorn. The family sleep in their clothes so they can leap out of bed and into the storm-mobile. Richard calls Mayumi his 'ninja wife'; she maintains equipment, drives the storm-mobile, films tornadoes and waits with the kids while Richard jumps on his motorbike, heads into the eye of the storm and launches rockets to measure magnetic forces.

Local news rag is saying "No sign of boy inside".

I think you would find at least a pee stain if he had been in there.

Edit: now they are saying it is the envelope only....no area for kid.

God I hope he didn't fall out. I think we'd all be just fine with him turning up hiding in a closet.

Hoping he is found alive...what do you think the charges will be?

Looking at the size of the balloon relative to the "rescuers" I don't think it has enough volume to lift a 60 pound child.
Who witnessed the boy getting into the balloon and flying away? My guess is a brother and who knows if he has his story right. The whole family has a pretty edgy lifestyle.
Dad's website is sure gonna kick after this assuming they all stay out of jail.

editI don't think the boy was in the basket at all. Video at first shows level flight. Later it shows the balloon flying well off-level as the winds carried it along. I claim with a WAG that it is impossible to fly that way with a 60 pound ballast in it.
It has to be one of Dad's weather balloons that got away.

This is what I posted elsewhere:

I don't think he was ever in it. The bag was really flimsy, with the weight of even a 6 year old in there, I don't see it holding its saucer shape. Plus it seemed really small to carry a kid. Mythbusters, who I don't really consider to be all that in the field of mythbusting, did an episode where they took on the myth of a kid floating off by hanging onto a bunch of regular party ballons. The amount of balloons it took to suspend a kid had a lot more volume than this thing IIRC.

I looked and it took 3500 balloons to just suspend a 44lb kid, neutral bouyancy.
