Local RC guy could use some help...

http://www.nbc11news.com/home/headlines/63948497.html#

Mike is a local flier, in our club, and as long as I've known him, a hard worker and a good guy.

He'll be out of work (due to having to go to the hospital every other day for IV treatments) up to 12 weeks.

If you read the link, do yourself a favor and do not read the comments. All that did for me was piss me off.

Shocking. That MRSA is a terrible thing, It closed two wards in a local hospital recently, they couldn't get rid of it properly for a period of about three weeks, it just kept on re-emerging.

This is the kind of guy I would like to see helped by "the system." Whatever that system may be. Insurance is a safety net, and this poor guy is falling through...

Read the comments. Basically a couple jerks being ignorant.

As for the story, the guy got picked up by a whirlwind and tossed through a garage. Talk about unlucky. I do have a question though: why would he have been unable to get healthcare insurance after falling victim to a freak accident?

After over a million in medical bills from that accident, he was dropped, and because of that is 'high risk' thus it is major expensive to get insurance.

But that had nothing to do with his health. It was a freak accident. At minimum you'd think the odds something else nasty would happen to him would be way down,. Also, considering this infection he has is a result of that accident, when he was insured, it would still seem to me they owe him his healthcare no matter how much his treatments have cost to date.

Or am I being overly idealistic?

A sad truth.

This is one of the reasons that we Americans want the health care system fixed.

No, you are not being overly idealistic.

The system needs fixing.

Right now, I don't know what the solution for Mike is....First thing, is to get better.

Damn, that is awful. Glad he is getting good treatment. Hope he is able to fight it off and save the arm. I know a couple folks with hardware in their joints, bones, and never thought about it being a target for infection.

That's what his insurance company thought... they thought his medical care was not their responsibility. He fought them for years and lost. I think it is pretty common, when a big bill comes in to an insurance company, for them to outright deny it and then figure out strategies to not have to pay it.

For those who asked in PM's, I talked to Mike and he uses his girlfriends paypal, it is: mattiguseman@bresnan.net

In the last week and a half he's had 3 surgeries, and goes in 2 times a day (I was wrong about the every other day) for IV treatments, which is required for 12 weeks.

You have a beautiful, wonderful country, but your healthcare system really sucks.

If it is MRSA, it is likely what he needs is a lawyer. The hospital should be paying to cure it.

Maybe those in the medical profession should review a little...
