Should think so. Am going to be running mine on 2200mah 7.4 lipo's.

So far only tested it on 4500mah 7.2 nihm.

1500 and 2200 mAh both sound rather low. The run time would be low and might not be able to deliver enough current.

To add to what Bruce said, the M5 benefits in off-road stability from more weight down low, so a heavier battery pack with a larger capacity is beneficial.
