My TS1 came in at 10 oz. with the CG at about 80mm. I'm using a small lipo, so I had to add weight in the nose for balance. It might have been lighter, but I wound up stuffing an AR7000, remote and all, into the pod- surprisingly good fit actually. I have an AR6250 that I had planned for this plane, but that's a no-no now according to Spektrum. A shame too, because it was such an sweet fit. I don't remember seeing anyone mention a good starting place for the CG in this thread- is 80mm OK? That's about in the middle of the range suggested in the plan. Rick |

The middle is always a good place to start!
I usually start mid to forward of the mid and then back off untill it gets to jerky to fly. Then add a little back in until it "feels" right........ The further back the better it will indicate - too far and its squirrley! -S |

You guys were right- I shimmed up the Horizontal stab and flew. Caught a small thermal on my second or third discus throw after about a dozen javelin launches to make sure the thing wouldn't auger in to the ground. A couple of hawks joined me and seemed a little too interested in my plane, so I bailed. I didn't want my TS killed by birds on it's first day out. LOL I mounted the peg well aft of position indicated in the plans (this was recommended by Paul and Bruce in the Radio Carbon Art DVDs). It seems to work very well, and the wingtip clears the web of my finger nicely. It's an inch in from the end of the wing and an inch and a half from the TE. I made an epoxy hardpoint for it and reinforced with carbon cloth top and bottom. I did some hard throws today and it didn't show any sign of pulling loose. Rick |

Nice to hear its everything we have been saying it is!
BE CAREFUL ON THAT PLACEMENT! There has been at least one guy who moved the peg away from where it was designed to go (at the spar) that cracked his wing tip right at the carbon. The wing was not designed to have the peg where you put it. Keep an eye on it and if it starts to show like its cracking - add an angled carbon patch to tie it back into the spar. Get out and start flying otherwise! Too darn hot here lately....... -Scott Quote:

One of the guys in the Alula thread posted this sticker, just stick it on where the birds can see it. Maybe it will work for you. |
