Did your kit not have the carbon cloth to join the wing?

I used 2 layers of 2 oz glass to cover my center joint on my non disser. I used the carbon on my disser. If done right the carbon works well and there is little weight gained.

Can you DS it??

There was some carbon in there, but I used it to make sure my throwing peg doesn't rip out. Funnily enough, that stayed put

Hmm. Note to self - Use the carbon on the wing join

I have finally got around to starting my rebuild using a new disser wing.
The carbon that came with my wing is only enough to cover one surface of the join. It has not been even been cut on the bias so it seems a bit pointless using it for the join. I have plenty of 68grm glass cloth I can cut on the bias, would this be a better option?
What do you guys think, Paul

I have never used carbon on the bias for the center joint. It would be better but much more than needed.

I'm not a strong thrower, ~50m, used both the carbon on some planes and some 2oz FG on some planes and never had either one fail (yet....)
Bias will make it twice as strong, but I never felt the need to do that yet.

From memory, I had the same issue. There didn't seem to be enough carbon to cover both sides of the join so I used some fibreglass that I had lying around instead.

Next time, I'll use 2oz top and bottom.

I think I have done a better job of my Topdrive this time around after a lot of fiddling about. My wing joint is not so good though, the trailing edge has slipped slightly before the 30 minute expoxy cured
I haven't bandaged them yet and am wondering whether to try seperate the panels and try again.

Do it AGAIN! This time BETTER!

Sooty,
If it was my model I would cut and redo. It would require an unwanted adjustment just to fly straight and if your a right handed launcher even worse.

Great day out with the Disser today.

Last week I added gap tape on the wings which has improved noise on launch.
Removed the tape from the trilerons and added a glued wire to the aileron with etched tube on the trileron side.

At the field I focused on the aileron throws, differential and DR/EXPO settings. This really improved the model for me. It now circles tight and flat where before I was battling a severe nose tuck 1/2 to 2/3 of the way around a thermal turn.

It's getting real good...

Great day in Seattle as well. My disser reached 144' with a 2 to 5 mph wind. The shortened non disser flys great with 3" hacked off the boom. I got a 133' launch with it in lighter winds so the short boom does not affect the launch by much if any. It has a very quiet launch also. Last week in 15+mph winds the disser was fluttering but I could not get it to do so today. Im going to look at my trileron tips and tighten them up some anyway.

For you guys worried about joining the wing halves, here's a product that works very well for me: fiberglass woven tape from CST (The Composites Store). I have 0.003in.X1.5in.X3 yards. available in various thicknesses, widths and lengths.

www.cstsales.com Look for the banner for Fiberglass Tapes, no less.

Yours, Greg
