Matt, I notice you and Jacko running larger then average props. Just curious why you choose to go the lower kv bigger prop route as opposed to higher kv small props. What benefits do you see with these setups and what drawbacks? Is there much torque roll?

Mats 54 has a 9" prop, Seems to have naff all torque roll but is only a 4" pitch, The IYF30 has a 7x5 prop... Torque rolls like crazy with 0 airspeed, buts its fun! All the others are running 6x4's

Hey Adam,
Main reason, its what I had to hand that would push the zephy (34 gram micro dan just looked a wee bit small !), plus 9 inches aint much for a big wing like the zephy (54 inches dont describe it, its a solid machine), haven noticed any issues, apart from WAY to much thrust, need more top end,
First motor lower kv , about 1184 on 10 by 5 was also sweet, at about 600 watts
From the VTO you can see not to much tourque issues :-)

Have some Turnigy 1250 kv motors http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=7072 turned up, will test and report back, should be a nice balance , and will be using them on the 80" Blunt as well

Looking forward to seeing how that motor performs, especially at only $17...

well when the last one handled 56 amps at 14 volts , im sure this one will do well, expecting closer to 40amps, which is where i want to be. jacko wont agree, he loves the VTO with the current motor

The Bad news on the motors.

Havent tried the 1200 kv's yet, but both 1400kv's are smoke

And its not like an overheating issue, in each case its one pole has fried.
Not 100% sure it was the motors fault, I have had two of the HK60 esc's die as well, one was at part throttle on bench, lost sync with motor, locked up and fried 2-3 fets.
Next day that motor failed.

The build quality is not that great (to be expected for the price) as two of the mounting holes for the prop adaptor on one of them was stripped, and grub screws on both were loose.

Currently running a waypoint motor on 9 by 4.5 apc e prop, changing to a 9 by 6 shortly. Current ESC is a Scorpion 65 amp

Moral of the story: don't expect much from cheap equipment. Too bad it had to be at your expense...

Good to know though. Despite being on a tight budget, I'll have to avoid the cheap Hobby King stuff when carrying $3000 worth of equipment.

Well, ya got to try, sometimes you find some gems in amongst the not so sparkly, take the EMAX motors, $6 bucks each and they are real stars. So are the full sized digital servos from bluebird, and the Turnigy Lipos

Yea definately if its a wing built for a mission such as AP or FPV or whatever, you want to make sure to go a bit more spendy
