Quote: It does actually have a leading edge
Yes, when I freeze the frame I can see that you have beveled the top "slab." Again I must repeat, my "looks horrible" refers only to the airfoil when compared to what we had come to believe a wing section should look like. On the subject of model wings doing what seems better than expected: I have just watched a video of a guy flying a plane with a wing made from a single thickness of foam that had been formed into a robustly cambered section. Not only did he fly the thing inverted but he also made it fly an outside loop. It's hard to apply either Bernoulli or Newton theory to that. |

I am flying two models made from 1" builders foam with simple flat chamfers cut in... with a serrated carving knife.. two chamfers at the front for a symmetrical section and a single one at the rear.. with flat/square 12mm leading and trailing edges...so there is plenty of drag on that leading edge...
their only fault is the poor foam, its not only softer than depron, its also heavier.. so there wont be long term durability.. Flying them is not a problem... They are based on the RM section (by RustyMustard)... They fly great... You've seen the designs recently redrawn and posted here for a KFm4 build.. which is the way I should have built them... Like 4bangen I use a 3536 motor but at 1050kv with a 11x7 prop ... plenty of thrust and very quiet they are about 33-35oz and go vertical on this setup.. no Bernoulli, but plenty of Newtons to overpower the drag from less than perfect sections..... basic crude , cheap models... that's the benefit of all foam builds.. good fun for little outlay video... overcoming drag is simple... overpower the model.... .

Well done mate, fly's nice! Though I think with that power set-up you could get a brick to fly...lol. good job.
Question posted in another thread about painting foam - depron - I think I've found some paint that MAY work..... well I'm going to have a look tomorrow, it's called 'duplicolor vinyl and fabric'. not many options here for foam compatible paint. Anyone had experience with this stuff?? |

I am getting more into foils and stuff, just trying not to take my stuff to seriously so it stays fun and playful. If I pile one of these in the dirt, I don't get upset, in fact the only time I'll even be sad is if I didn't get it on film! |

and if you put three motors on it you've got a tri-copter...lol.. low cost, good fliers, that's what foamies and KF wings are about.. we can try anything for a minimum outlay.. and surprisingly 99% work very well... and that odd 1%.. is likely to be something really special.. |
