You are correct. I was building the boxes like TWatson.

If you want to build to the original plans, your cost will drop considerably... to a whopping $9.34 + the cost of some good tape, some string, and some sort of "button" to wrap the string around to fasten the lid.

Price is not a problem and I'm good with making a tougher/better looking box. Thanks for getting all the materials.

I'll bring one to Sunday's contest and trade for a CNC hot-wire cutter ... yellow or red?

Nein - I need a bargaining chip for John, or I shall never get my hands on his CNC cutter. Tired of making templates. Leave your nose at home.

I thought he was going to say... Leave your CONE(S) at home... Yes John, it's PLURAL! I'm surprise John doesn't have one.

Anyway, so is the garage build thing hot? time? If so, let me know, so I can prepare by cleaning it and set up some table.

In stock at:
Tempe Store - Rual & Baseline
Chandler - Ray & I10
Gilbert - Warner & Gilbert

Probably a PER FOOT price!

So the shorter cross pieces should be 1.5" shorter than the box dimensions to fit between the long pieces. The reinforced original box picture

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/atta...mentid=2968423

only has the lid fully framed (2 long & 2 short,), and 2 long on the box for hinge reinforcement for a total of 4 @ 62" and 2 @ 10.5"

Another thing to consider is box thickness. These are inside, so will be shorter than 62". Looks like four, 6 foot pieces will do one box. 61.5 long + 10.5 cross = 72", if you use a thin saw kerf.

Home Depot had the nice 1x2 at $4.00 for 6 footers. Let's make it a bring your own wood!

Bob, I'm not sure about making everyone bring their own wood. It seems a bit late in the game to put that on everyone. Another issue is that I bought hardware based on framing out the whole case. If someone decides they're not going to build with wood, I don't know how we're going to secure the hardware to the box. I'll get enough wood for the whole project, you'll only pay for what you use on your box.

It seems like we're on for box building tomorrow. I'm aiming for 9am until we're done, or Vu get's sick of us.

The build will be happening in the 1200 block of W. Flintlock Way in Chandler.

Call me for directions. 4 8 0 - 7 7 3 - 1 3 5 4

Bring whatever tools you may have that you think will help. One thing I know we'll need is good carpet-knives/box cutters. I'll have a corded drill, bits, and a philips driver. Maybe even a cordless circular saw. An extra carpenters square or a few wouldn't hurt a bit.

My computer is giving me fits, so I may not be able to get back online before we start the build.

If you can't be there "on-time", or can't stay that long, etc... no big deal. We'll get done what we can with what we've got, and go from there. Call if you have any questions.

Hey guys, don't bring wood. I've got plenty. The wood Guz pointed out was actually much better quality AND cheaper than what i looked at at 84 lumber. With the quantity i bought, it dropped to $0.83 per PIECE, not foot. If you don't want to pay the extra few bucks for a full frame, don't worry about it. I've got plenty to go around.

I picked up some additional screws to fit the "1x2's", as well. Much easier than cutting the long screws to fit.

I will bring my electric miter saw, a few long straight edges (4 ft & 6 ft) and big triangles, and a few box type knives, a framing square, and my screen roller.

RCGroups Posts

Help!

I'm trying to read all posts by Mark Drela, and RCGroups will only provide the last 600, even when I use an advanced search and request all posts. The same happens with other folks that have posted a lot, i.e Phil Barnes, to name just one.

I'm sure he's posted well over 2000 times, so why the magic 600 number?

Thanks, Charles
