1.2ghz video ok with 2.4 radio?


So the only reason why i never purchased a 1.2 ghz system was due to the fact that i was convinced by fellow RCG'ers it was going to conflict with my 2.4ghz radio. Something about the video being on the same harmonic frequency.

Im running a spektrum dx6i with an ar6200 & satellite.

So I just need to confirm with a few other RCG'ers that they have this same setup (or just a 2.4 radio) and it does in fact work with a 1.2ghz video system.

I currently own a 900mhz 500mw system & i thought it was the best way to go as a combo with my 2.4 radio. But now that I have an OSD and GPS im finding out that its not such a good combo. So id like to move to the 1.2ghz 1000mw lawmate system and keep the same 2.4 radio.

So any success with this setup?

My funjet videos were done with 1.2Ghz video and I flew with 2.4Ghz specktrum. You should have no problems there.

September 5th, 2009 Funjet (4 min 41 sec)


August 3rd, Second Funjet Video Flight with 10Hz GPS (6 min 25 sec)


You can see the setup on the second video, the Video transmitter is really close to the 2.4Ghz receiver and the sattelite reciever.

I flew on channel 1 VTX.

I haven't tested it to death yet, but my 1.2ghz lawmate and Futaba FASST sems fine to me..

I mounted last week for a friend a setup similar with yours and no GPS issues.
I mean RV 500mW 900MHz tx and PM OSD, as yours. The Tx was on tail, and GPS on a wing, at a distance about 40cm. No ferrites, no filters, nothing special to minimise interferences, because were none.
Can you describe more exactly why you think 900MHz causes troubles to your GPS?

well I talked to remzibi and he said most problems from not being able to locate satellites comes from the 900mhz 500mw system. I have my gps mounted on the nose and the vtx mounted on the tail. It's very sparatic but sometimes I get sats and sometimes not at all. So he told me he's noticed much less problems with 1.2ghz. Plus isn't a 1.2 ghz system gonna give cleaner video anyways? And if I'm going from 500mw to 1000mw I should double my range as well correct?

no problem if you have video tx enought far from rc rx.
try to keep mw the lower posible, 500 mw is okey and you get same range than 1 watt at 2,4 ghz.

I was useing the 921 rx from jr with two satellites all positioned far away from eachother before
with the RV small 1.3 video tx.

good luck getting further than over 1 mile before you get a failsafe

video even with a small 1.3 is not the problem

trying to get a satelite with the rv osd /gps was also a

If Ox is me, than this Funjet has the EzOSD with a 10Hz GPS.

Nope, range is not linear with Tx power, you must quadruple the Tx power to get double distance. Doubling Tx power you will get (theoretically) only a of square root of 2 gain, i.e. 1.4 times.
I would rather change the antenna on ground instead increasing airborne power, much power in the air means bigger video battery and much radiation and stress on the RC plane and servos.
The only reports i would switch to 1.3Ghz, is the Thomas Scherrer report about how good is the RV 1.3G video receiver, that make the 300mW RV system to have same range as a hypothetical 2w 2.4GHz system.

For whatever it's worth, I've been out about a mile with 300mW 1.3Ghz video,
stock whip on the Tx, 8dB patch on the Rx, and FASST 2.4Ghz R/C control.
Can't go any further without starting to seeing some failsafes.
Haven't pushed to the limit of video range yet.

That's the main problem of 1.2-1.3G with 2.4G RC: the second harmonic, strong enough to affect 2.4G RC. A low pass filter between the video TX and antenna would help.
Here a fellow was able to do 2.5km with a 850mW 1.3GHz video. It seems that channel choice was the most important tunning.
