Mini-HowTo

Rebuilding the E-Flite Blade mSR Rotor Head...

So, I took my E-Flite Blade mSR out to my girlfriends house to fly it in the back yard, had a minor accident and broke one of the blade grips, when it came apart the small shims were lost...

I picked up the necessary parts for a complete head rebuild and thought I'd photograph the rebuild and share with everyone here...

Prep the chassis...

After removing the complete rotor head, main gear and main shaft I cleaned the heli and main board with some dust off, I also cleaned the main shaft bearings and swash bearing, I then applied a small bit of Tri-flow to the bearings...

The main shaft comes packaged with the shaft collar and screws, the collar is already installed...

Install the swashplate on the mainshaft...

Install the swashplate on the main shaft, then slide the Anti-rotation collar onto the mainshaft and secure in place with the correct screw...

Install the Flybar...

Next step is to install the flybar, I am running my linkages on the longer arms, the links go from the swash through the anti-rotation collar then the two link balls in the center of the flybar...

Install the feathering shaft...

Next step is to install the dampeners, feathering shaft and shims...

Place one dampener in each side of the Main Rotor Hub... Next, insert the feathering shaft through the dampeners... Finally place one shim on either side of the feathering shaft...

Install the blade grips...

If you don't have a clamp like this all I can say is; Get one...

Place one blade grip on the Feathering Shaft on either side of the Main Rotor Hub, be certain the small shims stay in place...

The screws used to secure the blade grips to each other are different than others on the mSR, they are a bit shorter than those used on the main shaft...

nice build details here

Not related to the build procedure. I see a minor potential issue on the flybar ring design. Its not secured to the shaft ? And only the shaft phasing arms (above and below) are the keeping the flybar in phase ? My take is that the flybar will temporarily bind with the ball links (temporarily losing gyroscopic function) at sudden throttle speed changes.

I've noticed a couple strange things(the bevel in the flybar center seems to be on the wrong side), but the way it flys I am not going to question or complain...

We had a perfect day here today, almost no wind at all, my GF has a great backyard to fly in, no trees and perfect rectangle, I finally got to see how fast this lil heli is, I am impressed with its performance...

Here's a photo of the completed Rotor Head/Main Shaft assembly...

Next, I need to install it in the chassis and install the main gear...

Into the Main Frame...

Pretty straight forward, slip the main shaft through the two main bearings, make sure the anti-rotation pin on the swash is in between the guide pins, connect the servo links...
