Name that object

Thought this was a rather clever little doo-dad, hadn't seen one before.

What is it for?

An itch?. Scratch build.

They look very home-made. I would guess they hook over something so the angle iron part protects something from damage.

It's a 'thingymajig' protector ?

In a way yes - if that thingymajig is a person who might need to leave somewhere in a hurry.

They could be used for that yes! But it's not their primary goal.

Clue: Someones safety could hinge on these objects

A person who would use a ladder hook would also use one of these.

Very interesting but I have no IDEA what they are for

It looks like something that I could have fabbed up out of stainless for a BBQ part

Looks like two nails welded into the V of two piece of angle iron with the nails then bent and maybe some silver paint applied.

I imagine they are for hanging something but I can't figure what.

And, I was thinking fireman too - or roofer but just because of the hints.

It must be some sort of handy dandy hook but I just can't see how or where it would be used or what it would attach to

It hangs on a door hinge and prevents the door from slamming when opened quickly.
