Yep, as he said I'm doing the beta build on this. Got the plans yesterday morning, hit the LHS in the afternoon for some foam, and had a plane cut out by 8pm.

So far so good, and I may have it in the air by Monday or sooner.

I'm using all parts from Nico Hobbies for the electronics except for the servos (had 2 GWS Picos sitting around needing a home). I'm shooting for somewhere between 5 and 6oz AUW just like with the other planes. I'll also be using the new Hyperion lipo instead of the Turnigy. Be interesting to see if there's any difference in power.

The pics are just of the dry fit. I'll take more for the build.

EDIT - Plans, build guide and decals added to this post.

OK, plane's all built and ready for maiden tomorrow morning. Here's my setup:

1806N 2500kv motor from Nico
10A ESC from Nico
2x GWS Pico Standard servos
GWS 4.5x3 prop
Hyperion G3 3S 450mAh lipo
XPS 6-ch parkflyer RX

Dry weight (no lipo) - 3.6oz/103g

AUW with Hyperion lipo - 5.1oz/146g

No paint so far, just all white. Should have paint and decals done by next weekend.

Here's a quick build outline and photos:

Step 1 - Join the front and rear fuselage halves with your preferred glue.

Step 2 - Glue in the CF spar with epoxy.

Step 3 - Hinge the control surfaces and attach them to the wing (easier to do now rather than later).

Step 4 - Glue on the lower intake sides.

Step 5 - Glue on the vertical stabilizer.

Step 6 - Glue on the lower vertical stabilizer locking piece.

Step 7 - Glue on the rear belly pan support.

Step 8 - Glue on the lower fuselage section.

Step 9 - Glue on the upper fuselage section.

Step 10 - Glue on the belly pan.

Step 11 - Glue on the wingtip rails.

Step 12 - Hot glue the ply motor mount to the foam motor mount. Use the motor base to mark and pre-drill your screw holes in the ply mount, then secure the base to the mount. Hot glue the motor mount assembly in place.

Step 13 - Install the ply control horns.

Step 14 - Install the electronics. The lipo should be placed all the way forward in the electronics bay and should be turned sideways.

Step 15 - Go fly!

You sabotaged my plane.

I just cut a few of these for Adam. These are one cool looking plane. I might have to get one of these flying when I get back from Michigan.

Maiden went off without a hitch, just as I expected. I think the CG set on the current plan may be at the forward edge of the flight envelope. I had to add a decent amount of up into it. But overall, another great flyer!

Got a total of two flights in. First flight was about 5 minutes of mixed throttle. I put a total of 396mAh back into the Hyperion G3, and the best part was it only took 8:13 to charge at a rate of 3 amps! I love these new G3's!

One thing different about this bird is that it doesn't flip right over like the others. I think that's because there is no control surface area in the prop wash. But that's OK, it still flies great. Vertical is unlimited with the recommended power setup.

Great job pat, this plane looks great in the air with a crazy fast roll rate. Slow speed performance was very nice as well.

Very nice looking! I would like to see the slow flying performance of this.

I watched pat fly it yesterday, he went up a few hundred feet and completely killed the motor, and it was like a glider! looks to me like it may have better slow performance than the F15, or the F22, you just dont get any thrust deflection like you do on those models, so the high alpha performance wont be as good. I plan on trying a working canard mod though, and see what that will do.

Yeah, it floats like a dream, but high alpha slow flight is not as good as say the F-22 or F-15 as there is no control surface in the prop wash. But it will hover in a slight breeze. I did manage to do that on the second flight when the breeze started to pick up.

All in all a great flyer, and speed on the flat level passes is nice! I think this one comes in second in top speed right behind the F-18.

Adam, these are really looking good! what about scaling one up to 6mm, and using 2 of the motors?? might even be able to do a little vector thrust on them?
