Easy Fly Glider ST330 (Easy Glider Clone) FPV Build Thread

THE BIG Easy Fly THREAD

TONS OF BUILD PICTURES!
DIAL UP USERS, GO MAKE A SANDWICH...

WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WA RNING

For those that do not know, the Easy Fly Powered Glider is a Chinese version of the Easy Glider accept it comes with a brushless motor and ARF (Just add RX/TX). Quite a bit larger than the Easy Glider so it can hold more weight..

Ill try and detail every thing I did to make this inexpensive bird FPV ready.

0:
The Manual... You gotta love Direct English Translations of Chinese

1:
My Easy Fly Powered Glider Arrived from Hobby King $70.00 US!

2:
I open the box to find it well packaged.

3:
The Shipping box was slightly larger than the Easy Fly itself so there is plenty of room for accessory orders should you include them.

4:
I Remove the Easy Fly from the box to inspect the goods.

5:
Immediately I measure the cockpit to get an idea of what I'm up against.

PLENTY OF ROOM!

6:
Hrrrmmmm... Uh oh, I pop the hood to find they filled the space with Servo's and foam....

I have some work to do finding the optimal location for battery and OSD gear. The Bottom is wide enough I may be able to cut out an opening to fit a 5000mAH 3S LiPO

HERE IS THE ADD... Gives you an idea of the end product.

Specs.
Length: 1210mm
WingSpan: 1960mm
Wing Area: 38.40dm2
Flying Weight: 960g
Wing Load : 25g/dm2
Flying Speed : 12m/s
Included ;
Motor : 950kv Brushless outrunner
ESC : 18A
Servo : 4pcs
Required ;
Battery : 11.1V 1300mah ~ 1800mAh 20C 2S
Receiver: Your own TX & RX
Price $69.99 ($40 shipping = $110 FPV Foamy platform!)

It's FOAMZILLA!

Search after search on RCGROUPS to only find reviews but no fpv build shots! I know its similar to the Multiplex Easy Glider just WAY BIGGER but com'mon not even one Easy Fly build thread?

My Build:
1. My CG is 79mm back from the Leading Edge of the wing.
2. Avionics (RX,OSD), in the belly under the wing
3. GPS above the wing, OSD, etc?
4. 2650Mah 3S LipO Battery in custom cut belly hatch closer to the CG point
5. Any 900-1200kv motor will give you 45+ degree climbs with a 10x8 or larger prop.
6. Stock Servos (ATENTION: They center poorly and one Aileron servos is a custom reverse servo so it cant be replaced without a servo reverser purchase.)
7. Started using a Corona RP6D1 to control it, but I needed mor channels for OSD operation so Im running a Corona 2.4Ghz DSSS 8CH RX now.

Hi,
A couple of my friends have this plane, I think its totally underpowered but one of my mates thinks its fine how it is standard...
Also I think the linkage setup is pretty dogey for the ailerons... thin wires running along the bottom of the wing, when you flex the ailerons it all buckles and stuff... dunno see what you find when you get it.

I would cut the whole thing in 1/2, gut it all out, use some nice servos & esc and it will be 10x easier to fit everything in.

Hobby city used to sell (maybe they still do) a turnigy rouge glider, which was exactly the same as the easyfly but it had no hardware and the fuse was split for you.

It should be easy to make and they do fly very nicely!
Ill keep my eye out on this thread and show my mates who have the same plane also!

I hear talk of the rouge glider kit being the Easy Fly but havnt been able to find it.
Thanks for the heads up on the sub standard linkages and power. I planned on using a heat gun to pull the fuse apart, anyone know if the kit is glued or taped? I'm gutting everything out.

I wish they would make an Easy Star clone twice as big. The BWEZ ads stability and all but I would like to see a bigger fuse that can hold 5000Mah LiPO's. I think the Easy Fly fuse just might be able to.

My Easy Fly used both - double-sided tape and opaque white hot-melt glue. You can carefully prise it apart OK, though.

To fix the sloppy and sticky controls: I ditched the "internally" operating control horns (actually, I kept these but as hinges only and as mounts for regular control horns I fitted - by pushing out the little pin that acts as the pivot for the internal control rod - this pushes out really easily, eg with a tiny screwdriver). I also got rid of the four push-pull tubes and put my rudder/elev servos down the back end at the tailplane and aileron servos outboard on the wings.

Prop looks a little close to the video antenna!

edit: Gaahhh! I'm an idiot. A little blind, too.

The simplest, the better!

Are you sure the motor incidence is correct?
Being almost on the CG position, shouldn't be horizontal or slightly pointing upwards?

Pdemon - it's a great question. I have absolutely no idea whether it should have up-thrust or down-thrust. I must admit that on the basis of this, I was going for upthrust.

Fortunately, if I've got it wrong, the aluminium pylon bends easily!

Views, anyone?

Pusher: Upthrust or Downthrust?

and going by this, this (use Google "translate" to see that he says "The Easy Glider flies with it cleanly. no pull up or down .... ") and, even more extreme: this, I'm going to stick with upthrust for the trial flight.

But happy to listen to any and all opinions ....

Thanks Simon! My Easy Fly is in transit (ETA 5days), after which time I'll document as much as I can. I ordered a KD-A22-20L Brushless Outrunner

If that is the EASY FLY cockpit there sure isn't much room
Looks like I'll be cutting Styro 1st day for the FPV gear and battery. I went conservative on the motor because I want to get at least 1 hour of flight time out of her.

What would you folks recommend for a battery?

That looks pretty good, SSM!
Where will your Eagle Tree stuff go? Just in the cockpit?
I'm sure I read somewhere that some chap made a hatch somewhere on this plane for extra room...

Cralis - yes I think I saw on Reckless Bill's "set up" video that he did a hatch on the bottom of the fuselage, with a cover attached by velcro. Maybe it was not the exact same plane.

SoMoney - I changed over from the stock motor (underpowered for FPV) to a Turnigy 35-30 1100kv that I expect to draw btwn 10 and 20 amps on a 10x5 - so I will try running with a 2200mAH 20C 3S to start with, but I'm flexible.

cheers,
Simon
