Some complained about cutting checkers over 6mm tail section so I tried something different. Lightly placed CPT on plastic sheet and cut then transferred to tail section, worked good.

Simple color scheme. Black stripes on bottom, red on top. CPT works great. Much easier and cleaner looking than spray paint.

I like to roll my CPT onto some blue painters tape first. This way I can then lay it out onto a flat surface & cut it to any shape desired without worrying about cutting through my plane. After cutting just unpeel & stick to plane.I like the blue tape because the waxiness of it allows it to unpeel easily. So far ive only done some pinstripes & small coverings but it should work well with checkers too

well did some checkers on my slope plane.Good part is having painters tape on the back allows you to place your checker pattern on the plane 1st to see how it looks.Bad part is its still a lot of work to unpeel each checker, lol.
I think if I was to do it again I would use a combination of painters tape & the wildweasels stagger technique in post 10

Super cool idea! As soon as I can locate some tape I will buy it. Does anyone know if any major chain stores sell it? I'm thinking Walmart?

Tape

I just bought a roll of red from hobby king, looks good. Sticks well, ashame its not a bit thicker as its a little translucent, more than i would prefer- but then it's light! I will get some different colours in the next order and have a go at checkering. Dont know about letters-Maybe hk
