Ok pricing out a 70 slick.
So far aero-models has an outstanding price for a 6s set up. $1100 with a thunderpower 6s 5K lipo + 50 shipped. Amazing deal, simply amazing.

Now I want a 8s set up BUT without battery, prop, or shipping I'm at $1147. All the equipment cost the same as whats in the combo kit???? So I'm losing here?

Is there a way to do an 8s setup and get it to around the same cost as the aeromodels combo?

I was looking at the same digital servos( 7985s)
hacker(a50-lsize) or motrofly motor for 8s
castle or hacker esc for 8s
castle BEC pro

Any help would be greatly appreciated

HS-985 servos are more than adequate. They're only $57 at Tom's RC. I'm using 2x Nano-Tech 4s 4000 packs with a custom wound Motrolfly. It's been working out great. I'm using an ICE 100 and a Castle BEC Pro. Several are running the stock internal BEC on the ICE 100 with the HS-985s without any issues. There's a few ways you can save some money.

Minus rx and batteries. I got mine around $1060 Shipped. I went with the HS-985s though.

Edit: Maybe you can call them up and see if they will work a deal with a more suitable motor.

I wanted to go digital to utilize the HS mode on the futaba systems. (7 miliseconds instead of 14ms responce time )

Also whats a better cooler running motor in the slick, Hacker a50-16L(272kv) or the motrofly 4325 (275kv) Wanting good power and cool temps(thats why I want to go 8s instead of 6s, well and use the packs for the 59 slick too)

I guess my best bet would be to call Rob at ADC and see what he can do for an 8S set up 70 slick as Rob has always taken care of me!

I had a tight budget so I went with the following components (shipping included)

- SC 72/ Slick 70 = $470
- Infinite A5020-250 kv = $65
- CC ICE 80 HV = $110
- 4 x HS 5625 MG = $ 150
- CC BEC Pro = $35
- APC 19 x10 = $11
(free shipping for $99 order from Tower)

So, mine is less than $850 minus Rx and Bat

Including Rx and Bat, I can get it less than $1,000 with good quality components.

Note: Hacker is a very good motor brand, but the Infinite motor works well for me (similar performance for less than half the price).
Turnigy? Maybe no.

I prefer CC ICE HV over the ICE (so I can test my setup at higher voltage, ran 9s last night, holy s...). Plenty of them are being sold on rcgroups. I bought a new one free shipping for $110.

Infinite motors are good, and they are severely under rated.

Ron was selling a Slick with 3 battery packs for $600, but he'd changed his mind before I found his ad. lolz

yeah, ive heard good things about the infinite, and thats a fantastic deal on the esc, but i wouldnt use the hitec 5625 servos. go with at least the 985's...7985's if you can swing it.

I cant swing it, you know, I am a grad student.

HS-5625 and HS-5645 are old design, They seems to have a tiny bit (occasionally) of over shoot around center.

Tower is listing several mid-range Hitec HV servo (HS-5665 MH). The specs look good to me for a sub $50 servo.

Motor Type: Three pole ferrite (7.4V wind)
Bearing Type: Dual ball bearing
Speed: 6.0V, 0.16 sec/60
7.4V, 0.14 sec/60
Torque: 6.0V, 122 oz-in (8.8 kg-cm)
7.4V, 139 oz-in (10 kg-cm)
Size: 1.6 x 0.8 x 1.5" (41 x 20 x 38mm)
Weight: 2.1oz (60g)

7985 is good but not worth the $10 saving from the 7955, which I initially installed on my SC.

Been waiting for the weather to calm down, it's been 30 - 40 mph wind and sub 40 degree.

havnt seen anyone run the 5665's, but yeah, the specs look great. especially nice that they are HV servos. i love my 7985's, and the only reason i went with them instead of 7955's is that the 7955's would require a rx pack for me to feel comfortable running them, and i wanted to avoid that at all costs.
