Have you ever used them to connect the motor to the ESC or is it simply best to solder those two things together?

I figured if I used APP's I could put electrical tape around them to ensure they don't come apart... seems like it would work right?

Anyone see any issues here?

The issue I have with crimping APP's to the motor is the solid core wire and the varnish on the wiring.

As in you can't physically get it to crimp or that you are worried about the crimp serving as a good enough contact point because of this?

Don't crimp the motor side. Aeromodels found that was what was causing issues with one of my brothers planes. We had the same issues with another one of his planes that he cramped too. So l soldered everything up and they now work perfectly. Aeromodels said it was a no no.

OK - good enough for me. I've got a friend that's much better at soldering than me so I'll have him help me out with that piece. I'll then use APP's on the ESC/BEC/Battery connections.

I would worry about getting a good crimp honestly. That said you could just crimp and then solder the motor side.

Yea but for me... that defeats the purpose. If I'm using APP's it's because I'm trying to avoid soldering.

Soldering is really not hard...
get the right iron and it is super easy. Wrong iron and it sucks. I struggled with it for years due to having the wrong iron. I now use a Weller SP40 from Home Depot. It's about 18 bucks.

Use the giant chisel tip. Let it get good and hot for about 5 minutes and your soldering will be super easy.

Maybe that's my issue. I've watched tons of YouTube videos and even watched people do it live multiple times but I've just never been able to do it!

I've got a 60W hobbico iron that should be sufficient. It just seems like I can never get the solder to start flowing... Especially on the large wires!
