I would think you could get away with running 6s easier than running 12s. That kv is best for 8s I believe but running 6s on something like a 20x12 or even 22x10 might work if you are really desperate. Whatever you do just be sure to get some wattage readings before flying.
Honestly I would wait till you have the correct battery and start out with a great setup/flying experience. Throwing something together just to fly might hinder the great qualities of this awesome airframe. Best of luck with your decision.

Steve, you'll be happy to know that I'm giving thought to keeping my 70"

While I've been getting a lot of interest, what you said about not always wanting to take out the 89" is resonating. At least here in Vegas where I don't have close access to a gasser field.

So I think I'll keep it at least until the Hucktoberfest when I won't have to ship it...

Strange thing.....Finished my Slick today, was checking the CG (starting point of 160mm from leading edge at root) and I had to put the battery all the way back to the wing tube to get near it, as it was big time nose heavy......Oh well battery to center of battery tray and fly it... go from there...

Pull Pull? I set mine up for pull pull but had the same issue. I ended up throwing the servo in the tail.
