Question

Mercury Junior Mallard

Does anyone have any information on the Mercury Junior Mallard? I've seen a picture of one and would quite like to build one.

The Mallard is also listed by Phil Smith @ 3 plus postage. I only have an old list but John38 posted the latest edition in this sticky recently.

I built a Junior Mallard fifty years ago with an original, that I still have, radial mount Webra Piccolo to power it.
It trimmed out and flew quite well. I had no DT on it, and almost lost it once......so beware.

Phil includes rib patterns etc and build instructions where available. he will also scale up/down to yor requirments within printers capabilities.

I recently built a 1.5 times size for r/c and electric motor. cg came out at about 85% back as per contest performance requirments - glided a dream with the LIGHTEST of r/c touch but more effective control was almost impossible as with that cg and large tailplane model was intended to glide in a fairly tight circle while thermalling - all frree flight of course - any attempt to fly straight invariably put model into severe stalling.

ideal for very calm days with little wind to enable minimum of pilot interference.

I think I posted some pics a friend took showing it coming into land - will check and post later.

Thanks all. Ben Buckle and Phil Smith only have the standard version (not the junior). I'll order a set of plans from 'Model Plans'. This picture has inspired me to build one!

pictures of my 150% sized mallard - not quite in the order I would like but.........

motor is a 600 watt motor producing about 350 watts on 3 lipos. climbs about 70 deg with a stack of down elevator in to stop it looping.
