What could be causing this?

I need some expert help! Over on the Polaris thread there are many cases of thermal shutdowns and fried ESC's but some folks have no worries. Most of us are using Suppo or Grayson 2212-06 motors with APC 6x4 props. Published data on this motor and prop indicates a max amp draw in the 20-24A range and many folks get this. However, a number of people are getting much higher amp draw from this set up; 36-38A in my case. Many have gone to pretty extreme lengths to keep their ESC's alive. I added an external finned heat sink to a 40A ESC on mine.

My question is why is this happening? What could cause so much variation in amp draw between people using supposedly the same set up?

Poor quality control of the motor. The Kv is probably not what they think it is or what it is marked.

Most of the time if all connections are good thermal shutdowns, fried escís and the motor or esc are getting warm or hot then the prop needs to go down.
