J,

You can use a Doppler app to find out what the RPMs were during the flight.

I have the same problem as you. I have an Efflux RC, 5 min flight video that a friend recorded on his I phone. the file is too big to email, so he put it on a memory stick. I have it now and can view it. (I also have the Iphone) I tried to make a movie to upload to you tube, using Picasa 3, but have not yet been successful at making it work. Let me know what you find out. I'll keep trying to figure it out.

I would love to post on Youtube but iPhone/Quicktime files do not allow the conversion. If someone has an idea on how to convert I will do it. The file is not too big, only 5.7 mb so if anyone pms me an email address I will send it through. Everyone here was amused. The fan destruction was clearly audible as was the motor maxing out after.

Got it J,

I saw all 12 seconds of the flight. Did You break in the Rotor, slowly, up to WOT for 30 seconds (on the 5s battery) before attempting to fly it? What happend to the motor? What does the end cap, motor shaft/magnet area, and wires look like?

I already had a few flights on 4s and one on 5 prior to the crash. I also did several long drags down the grass runway at full speed on 5s to trim the rudder and front leg steering

The end caps are perfectly in place, so the hammer method was completely reliable. I could not find anything of the impeller but the wires are all perfect. In fact the shaft still spins, although it is now very wobbly. You can see by my earlier photos that all is together but the shaft and adapter are both badly deformed. Probably bcaused y a severe out of balance condition created by the impeller fragmenting,

I will try mounting the other fan unit in a foamie, yet to be purchased before promoting it to a composite.

IMO the fan just failed probably due to fatigued as I was just asking to much of it. I knew it was being pushed beyond design and I paid the consequences.....no tears. Lets see the 2000 watt capable version.

For those more interested in the audio, it did sound very turbine like during the speed runs. Hopefully someone will be able to upload the clip.

LOL..I was expecting something longer than what J showed me. (j/k)

J,
Be sure to mount the shaft adaptor as close to the motor as you can without it rubbing. (to minimize runout and vibration.) The center of the setscrew should be about 3/16 from the motor end cap. When assembled into the EDF housing, the base of the shaft adaptor will be INSIDE the center hole of the housing.
