Would you give your life for THIS?
I think this says it all...

I have given 28 years of active and reserve service to ensure that this great nation (USA) and my family shall remain free. If service to my country would have cost me my life, it would have been a small price for me to pay. Short answer---Yes!!! If you will not stand tall for your country, move elsewhere.
I am grateful we have a man in the Whitehouse that has a cooler head than many of the people posting on this forum. This nation will survive this mindless act of hate and will be stronger for it. Bill |

I'd give my life...but I'm not killing anyone. Seems kinda strange, but that's exactly what I'm prepared to do. Ever see Ghandi?
Seems to me, being willing to die is more powerful, than killing more people. Actually, the whole thing has me considering becoming a fireman. Those guys have testicles like a Blue Whale. |

"Seems to me, being willing to die is more powerful, than killing more people. "
This only works with rational civilized enemies. Actually protecting your country and loved ones is much more useful. |

Killing and hurting people is the problem, not the solution. I post some of my most closely held beliefs and you belittle what I have said. Way to be. I'm not buying the rationality and civility of blowing people up, whether it is done with 757s, cruise missiles or anything else, whether they are called soldiers or grandmothers. Violence begets violence and I can only hope that cooler heads will prevail among the powerful. We all want those responsible brought to justice...we all want to live in peace. Sometimes seems I'm the only one who thinks me killing others loved ones is as abhorent as someone killing me or my loved ones. I'm not gonna argue...I won't post on this thread further. |

The goal was not to belittle, but to educate. You posted your opinions in a public forum designed to generate discourse, but really did'nt want to hear the discourse? Way to be. "Sometimes seems I'm the only one who thinks me killing others loved ones is as abhorent as someone killing me or my loved ones. " Now who's trying to belittle? Virtually everyone feels that same way. Ask yourself then, why we would choose to kill others anyway. Big hint: It's not for fun or revenge. Its is a little odd and contradictory though, that you choose to become cannon fodder without any thought about what position this leaves your loved ones in. |

Even though im not active duty i am former military. I took an oath to defend America, her properties, people, and ideoligy and as far as i know my right to do that has not been revoked, being former military there is a chance in times of war i could be called to active duty and i would do so honorably,so the answer to your question is Yes.

Nothing in the oath about people, property, flags, buildings.... We are who we are as Americans only because of that document, and the rights it guarantees. Certainly not because of the Stars and Stripes. |

No it is not contradictory. There are times the cause is greater than the individual. Would it be better if I fought and died so my Wife and Child could be free, or to live with them under a tyranical dictatorship? I wish everyone to be free...! Todd |

i think the some ppl need to get rid of the notion that ANY one person can make a difference. at d-day, if there was one less american, british, or canadian solder landing on that beach, it probably would not have made a difference. even with voting, one vote would not have mad a difference. 537 votes would have, but not one. ppl like ghandi, martin luther, calvin, MLK, have made a difference b/c the had exceptional skills, and luck. some need to get a reality check; just b/c u want something so bad and r willing to do neting to get it, that doesn't mean it's gonna happen or ur gonna get it.

I am ex-United States Air Force, and I would go in a heartbeat if called upon to do so. Not because I am anxious to kill someone else's father, brother, mother, but because my country has been attacked. NewbieX, I am not putting down your ideals, but there is nothing glamorous or noble about letting yourself be nothing more than a target for someone else to shoot at. The United States has been attacked, just the same as Pearl Harbor, only on a much more catastrophic scale. Should we have just turned the other cheek, and not gone after Germany, Italy, and Japan in world war II, should we just have accepted what happened as our reaping bad karma, and decide that it was much more noble for these people to die than for us to fight back?
War is about killing people until they decide they have had enough. I guarantee you, it's easy to sit back and talk about just laying down your life, but in so doing, how have you helped your country? You actually help your enemy by dying so foolishly. |
