RoE:

Ther are just a few things to say:

-The built is partially synchnonous structured, what means you will take lessons to build a plane which is not yet flown or tested at that time - so I can't take any responsibility for its flying behaviour...

-Everyone who registers does this on his own risk, to buy , to build and to get addicted on this building style ...

- I will try my very best to support you during this phase of built , but as this is not a commercial course there is no claim from entrants side which binds the content of the workshop to certain specifications or targets.

- As this workshop is non commercial, the material ( drawings and informations -as long as not published by the owner, within this thread - are handed out to the entrants for non commercial and personal purposes only - further distribution is not permitted in the first.

I guess thats all...

Have fun building!

Kick off and time frame

After the official kick off for the project, I will finish and test a package of several hours of work and and after testing - I will share this to the participants, to be done in a certain time period! Work volume will be about 1..2 hours per week what should be possible to be done by everyone.
- What means that a task of approximately 4 hours of work is timed over a periode of 3 weeks.
To keep all of you together you should be able to get the task done in the specified time. Time problems due to vacancies periode will be faded out by the share of several units and a longer periode to finish the tasks.
As there would be questions during the time periode they may be discussed in this thread!.

Every partipiciant should open a own thread, which should be linked in the first post of this thread - so every built would be easily accessible!!!

Global time frame for the "raw and white" built to finish should be until end of the year!!

Target of this workshop is to get a raw and white built . Finish coating or paintjob is to be done by each entrant on his own same with the setup, as there will be several combinations of components to work with!!!.

I sure will make suggestions how to finish up the white plane but you also are able to go your own way... And perhaps some others ( J and his beautiful finished models could perfectly fit into this) could lead the finish part themselves volountarily.

That is the idea of the whole thing

BoM - Bill of Material

Materials :

Foam:
-4 to 5 sheets 800mmx1250mmx6mm of pure Depron or Depron derivative
( you would need 3 Sheet but as this is your very first trial ... you should have alittle backup). For the staight parts you also should be able to substitute with other 6mm foam ( e.g FFF ). but I don't know what this means for weight .

Stabilization:
-1 m 4 mm Carbon fiber tube ( 1mm thick )
-15..20 cm 4x 6.5 aluminium tube ( which easily can be kinked )ans so would be a solution for the bendings in the wing ( the inner diameter fits on the carbon tube)

Wood:
-Light ply wood 150mmx750mmx6mm for the baseplate of the tool and the motormount
-Sheet of 2mm thin ply wood to make the rudder horns from

Plastics:
-12 to 15 cm wide clear shrinkmold ( 0.5 m length to create the canopy from) -
1m 2.5mmx 3.2mm PVC bowden tube for machine guns and detail works

Glue:
-Fast resine glue (5minutes Epoxy resine for fast assemblies)
-Slow glue ( 1k PU resine; 1 hour Epoxy resine)
-Contact glue ( UHU Por )
-Two sided duct tape
-1 sided clear PVC packing tape ( 50mm wide) ( I strongly recomment the Type TESA 4124 Packingtape ultrastrong which should also be available in the US - watch out for it in the DIY store..)

Other things:
-10 flex hinges for ailerons and elevator and that's it+
-30cm long 1mm spring wire to hinge aileron to servo
-1m long 0.8mm bowdenwire + tube to hinge elevator to servo
- Motor ( <= 28mm diameter < 30mm long designed for front mount ( 1000 rpm /V @3SLipo , APC 8x4 , weight 40..60 gram )+ ESC
-3 servos 8..9gram
-RX +++ and whatelse you need

Tools:

-fine ballpen ( or just the refill)
-ruler
-new fine sharp cutter blades
-Ultra scalpel for fine works
-needles and pins
-sticks to stir epoxy and a small pot
-jigsaw and drill
-heatgun
-120 180 and 300 grain sandpaper
-grinding block

I hope this is everything you need for the built

Finally ... getting started

Welcome Guys!!

I guess subscription periode has ended and so we will move to here!!

You will find the preliminary list of materials needed and tools to use in the post above! ...

fasten your seatbelts, you will find the emergency exits in the rear, left and right at the wings locations, stop smoking and enjoy your built.
the servant later on will share the first package of drawings and we all hope that those who still didn't send their contacts DO THIS SOON OR THEY ARE COUNTED OUT!

Some additional information:

As I used Depron sheets for the fuse ( dimensions 12"x32" )you probably could take the 13"x36" plates for the fuseages skin and use plain 6mm FFF for the skeleton and the wings ... as there are no spherical bents and deformations ... would cause blue wings but finally would be a backup as you won't find a source for the big sheets!!!

Chief Mechanic for my son
Hans,

What is this minimum size Depron, length and width needed for the project? Here in the USA, it's hard to find larger sheets. For me, it looks like 1000x800 is that largest size of 6mm Depron I can find. Others may have trouble finding even this size. What is the smallest size we can use?

1 m 4 mm Carbon fiber tube ( 1mm thick ) - I assume this is 1 meter long of 4mm CF tube, with a 1mm wall thickness.

-15..20 cm 4x 6.5 aluminium tube - I assume this is 15-20 cm of 4mm inside x 6.5 mm outside diameter tube. I'm sure we can be a little flexible, as long as the CF tube fits reasonably inside the Aluminum tube.

A little more detail on a suggested motor and ESC size would be appreciated too. Perhaps letting us know what you are using would help us insure we have something in the right size range.

Thanks,

Jack

Where can we get the skrink mold for the canopy in the USA? anyone know..
TIA

I think I have most everything else already or on order. I am getting stoked!

Jack: the sheets for the fuseages skin should be 300mmx800mmx6mm which would be enough. The inner structure can be done with FFF or other 6mm foam also but requires sheets up from DInA4 ( Lettersize) or just some scrab left in the toolshop - you will see what I mean as you get the drawings

For the wings I have still no estimation but the parts would haev to be much larger ... I have seen some guys building similar structures ( as my wings are ... using fan fold foam ... so you I would think you also could use that stuff for the wings!!!! ( FFF should be available in much larger sheets!!!)
so you would get a white blue plane but paint or covering technique could at least cure this optical problem!!

Ok, first lesson is on its way ... have some fun building ... if there should occur problems - please give me a feedback!!!!
Same as someone on the list didn't receive the drawings please reply!!!

clear shrinkmold you will get at the LHS - that sell that stuff for shrinking battery packages from single cells ( NiMh or NiCd ) - you just would have to put a positive styrene form into the tube built a base below ... shrink it and

cut it off ... and the canopy is finished!!!

Hansjoerg

P.S.: As I have to get an overview, how fast you are in building .... and to better organize my support with drawings and for this thread , you should please give me feedback about your progress.
Everyone ... Start your own built thread ..send me a link, I will put in the first post here and so I'm easily being able to access your thread in case of questions. Another thing would be, that you should send me a reply as you finsh up a unit ... so I will put it in the checklist above... then I know how about progress of everyone and so can better adapt speed!!!

Jack as I mentionned motors and accu can be used over a wide range ... dependent on how heavy you want to build - as you will fly a light / non coated just painted plane with appr 300 to 350 gram AUW you could use e.g. a Hacker A20M with about 1050 RPM/V on 3S and APC 8x4 and about 1200 mAh 3S Lipo...
On 400 to 500 Gram AUW coated verison or for faster flying abilities you could use e.g. a DualSky 2830CA 10T
with about 1180rpm/V on an APC 8x4 or 8x6 prop and 1200 mAh 3S Lipo... About the Aluminium tube ...one meter is about 2E at the DIY but as you should have a tight coupling the 4mm at least should fit --- or as you just will get a tube with an inner diameter of 5mm you may use a 5mm Carbon tube!!!

Thanks Hans,

the drawings are excellent!!

Just one question: on page 5_6, shape "6 bot", is the bottom of it to be cut flat and keep the removed part? as there a straight horizontal line at the bottom.

Happy Landings ( and building!)

yes in the exlpoded view its flat on the bottom...

what settings are we supposed to use to print these out.. A4 or letter size 8.5x11 ?

I want to know my printed out plans are the right size. Say the part that says
13/14 Side Part Front. is 77mm tall at its widest point

and the 2 tabs in the front of the same piece is 11mm apart in the middle?
does that sound about right?
