Dx6i Antenna mod

I had a few people ask me what I did to my RX. I removed stock 2 DBi ant. found small cap for end, drilled hole and installed a 8" Reverse SMA Bulkhead to U.FL pigtail connector. which gives me the use of wifi antennas of differant gains. I also can connect up a wifi booster ( http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/...=72&ProdID=187 ) in the antenna link which I can switch powers from 100mw to 500mw output. That runs off a seperate battery. Now I have a lot better range.

But you told us what you did to your TX.

How much better is your range? Did you actually measure it?

CONFIRMED... Had to wait for someone to help me. Distance is confirmed with DX6i in EU power mode, no booster using 9dbi patch with LOS of 5.85 kilometers (3.63 miles). This is with using a AR6200 dual system with one RX vertical other horiz. No glitching or fade outs. Moving airplane around. This is second test and I wanted to verify my ground test before posting. Range in air should be much better, if you want to go that far

That's some nice range!!

So far I have tested my bog standard DX7 to not much under 2Km with a stock AR6200. I had not gear to test fading - but it was flying fine!!

Here is the Vid
Getting Lost - FPV Style!! (3 min 34 sec)

I will follow this thread with interest.

I'd be a little nervous about showing up at the flying field with a radio that's altered like that. Even if it's actually a perfectly legitimate and safe modification, there's no way for others to know that. If someone else who's flying at the same time you are has any sort of radio glitch, you can expect to get blamed for it.

Could you see you're plane that far?. Are you doing this mod for normal flying or for FPV.

I have taken my plane so high and far that for me it was just a little dot in the sky. Don't understand why someone would hack a perfectly good radio to get further distance when the stock setup works beyond what I am able to see and control.

Did it for FPV. It's just a simple antenna mod. I had seen some posts about guys breaking off and faulty antenna's. Also makes it easier to pack away and not snapping it off as stock can do.

That was the info I was given. The Aus version was more powerful than the USA version.

I just wish I could find it!!

ALSO... i have asked this elsewhere but no answer,

I need to run 6 servos... so do I use a BEC or an RX battery?

Cheers

I'd use a Rx battery. I only run 4 servo's and I'm switching to a seperate battery just in case motor one runs out (if i'm not watching time). You do have higher power, no fare.

Mongrel, it would be safer to run a separate battery for the Rx
