Well done Max !
I can appreciate how hard that is, I've broke planes trying to do similar things.
I've gotta make me a FPV Fox, I've already got all the bits to make one (except a suitable prop).
Looks like you guys have a stack of fun, Must get up to your field one day for a look-see.
BTW Sorry to hear your mini-DV doesn't work, mine arrived and it works good !
Hope to roll some tape this weekend.
Congrats again on a great thread !

I have a CMOS cam that has a similar washed out color look to it. Would adding an IR filter help with the color? The cam has great resolution and light handling, but lacks good color.

What does an IR filter consist of, and where does it go? Behind the lens, or on the sensor?

Sometimes the filters are attached to the lens assembly, and sometimes they are right in front of the CMOS sensor. if you happened to switch out lenses, odds are there was an IR filter on the lens that isn't on the new lens.

ChancesAu,

I have ordered 2 cameras and lenses from the ebay seller.

It will be interesting to try these.

(and even more interesting to find something to fly under )

FPV fox with osd

I also build a Fox few weeks ago but had few chances to try it due to the weather.
I use mainly Fatshark equipement for this project, the Killerccd camera with a wide angle lens give a beautifull picture, but it need sun unless the picture appear darker compare to RCV922 camera. The Immersion 10mW tx, 2,4ghz is very light and it can operate directly from the 360mAh 2S lipo use for the motor. The camera is mount on a panning servo modified for 180deg, but the resistor I had use give me only 120deg in real. The picture is receive in my Fatshark goggle and I use a headtracker to pan the camera. The camera have two microphone, I received the sound in stereo But I don't use the earphone, too noisy...

I use a 10gr motor and a 10A ESC mount in front of the plane. two servo are use for ailerons and one mount in the tail for the elevator. All servo are 3.7gr. The receiver is a Berg7p, the case was remove and the servo wire are weld directly on the receiver, no connector.

I will upgrade soon the osd onboard my other plane (Cap232) to a more powerfull one, and I will take the Alti-osd presently in the Cap to install it in the Fox. This osd without the connector pins will weight around 5gr. It will add the altitude, voltage and temperature in the video picture.

I don't have any decent video, I will go tonight flying in a park with it, perhaps I will get the sun this time to make a good video.

Denis,

That looks great! I can't believe you have the steady hands and patience to modify that little servo.

I've been considering building these with a single servo for ailerons. Did you try that initially? I see there's an orange plug on the top.

I may also try rudder only control. I've seen some people do that, but I really don't know how well that would work on this plane. I want to keep the build as simple as possible. I probalby won't have pan on the camera intially, I may eventually try that. I just don't think I have the patience to do what you did to the servo, and my pan module is a tad big for this plane.

I like that notch in the bottom for equipment. I may have to try that out too!

Yes I installed the two servos initially in the wings. My idea about the orange square was to add a foam piece on top to protect the camera and tx for hard landing, but it's so light it become not neccessary so I removed it.

I would install one servo on top for both ailerons for my next Fox. Rudder will not be enough effective, you will not be able to fly low between obstacles, and this is the goal, this plane is near indestructible, but it's easy to lost it in a tree

Also I did not say it before but i change the angle of stabilisator by cutting the foam. Now it in line with the fuse. Initially it have an angle that give me impression it will go directly in the ground at first launch. I'm the only to have done that... so I think it was not neccessary. But the plane fly very well.

Here is my first Fox video. Light wind and the sun was low at the horizon. My camera need sunlight and high in the sky to perform at his best for my kind of flying low, very low

I used just one 5g servo for ailerons and it worked out really well for me. I mounted it underneath the wing. I haven't put FPV equipment in mine yet, but as soon as I have a bit more time....
Just TOO much FUN. Perfect little "take anywhere" FPV ship. I imagine that with the Fatshark set up there is even less to lug around.

You can see my Fox at the bottom of this page:

I have another airframe ready for conversion. I think next time, I will use a smaller CF rod and shorter in length for the main wing.
