Conversion from 2-blade to 3-blade prop

Is there any particular "rule of thumb" for switching from a 2-bladed to a 3-bladed prop???

I'm trying to go for a more "scale" look for my Scorpio Hellcat.

It comes with a 10 x 7, 2-blade prop, and uses a geared, 400 long-can motor.

I would like to try a 3-blade, but without loosing power or speed... is this possible???

What would be the trade-offs, if any?

Thanks!

2 to 3 blades, leave pitch the same and reduce diameter by approx 10%. So a 9 x 7 would be about right.

Multiblade props are a little less efficient but you're not likely to really notice the difference unless the plane is already marginal.

Thanks Steve!

Say... could you explain to me exactly what a "tip stall" is and what causes it???

Is it more related to airplane design? ...or to pilot error???

Also, is it preventable?

Thanks.

Tip stalls have nothing to do with 3-blade props or with Power Systems. They are discussed fairly often so a search might help. If you don't find enough by searching I suggest starting a new thread in the Modeling Science forum. I'll be glad to chat about it there.
