Dave , here’s my (your) 24” floppy 4mm EPP Nifty ... before bracing ... 2.2oz.
Found some bits of carbon fiber rods hanging around ... question is ( since you’re the designer eh ? ) should I add the CF rod to the LE of the wing or right at the juncture of the wing and KF strip ~ mid wing ( more spar-like ) ??? Can’t decide ...

I believe this is some very low density EPP ..

It seemed like a good idea!!!!

Shame you can't stiffen and keep that shape, I reckon it looks awesome with that curve.

Sort of like a Nifty Klingon Bird of Prey

Found some bamboo slats from a place mat , so we glued them to the LE of the wing crossing in the middle , and one on the rear right onto the KF step ... (see pics ) Looks flyable as long as we don’t over power it ... weight gain was minimal ... so far ...

the expensive way is too put a 5mm CF flat spar glued vertical along the step line.. and a 3mm CF flat along the leading edge..

But why no pallet strapping? and no laminating film? that would make the wing perfectly stiff..
you don't even need a full covering of laminating film, a few inches top and bottom, wrapped around the profiled leading edge and another few inches at the hinge line.. plus the elevons all covered.. will make it all stiff..

The cut down 24" version has been flown today... starting with an 18% COG and moving it back to a 20% COG ...
20% is better, but still nose heavy as can be seen when it rolls..
the Emax 2204-2300 is not as powerful as I want.. so its now been swapped for a T2204-2280.. One of the T motors is already flying my small deltaV wing and takes the wing up like a rocket... V wing weighs in at 8.6oz and the Nifty weighs 9.1oz..

Quite Nice Dave !!!

Re: Working backwards , we’re adding things till it flies ... or is “stiff enough “ ... attempting to save as much weight as possible (with what I have ) ... and would rather a slow motion version of your Nifty ... more like a "Yard Nifty” ... Now in the test gliding phase ...
Apologies , once we get this out of mind , we’ll build a proper Nifty (rocket) What started this idea was MS showed me a Tiny lipo he had acquired , with an impressive voltage delivery in a small LIGHT package ... I’d only want to fly something like this for a few minutes so wouldn’t need anything larger. ( as yet ) ... working up to it .. Why? ... because it’s so “Nifty” eh .... hahahaha

Ps. I did have a CF flat spar that would have fit perfectly behind the step , but it felt heavier than the bamboo ...

also worth trying are strips of laminating film.. ruler width.. put on like the pallet strapping above and below the wing..they are light enough..
Ive used the strips on the leadfeather eppyak55 model instead of diagonal CF bracing, running strips down the fuz, stops the twisting..
shown in the pictures its difficult to see, but look for the shiny areas ..its used either side of the horizontal and vertical fuz, across the stabiliser and elevator. and a couple of other places..
what was an easily twisted fuz is now stiff enough..

Ive given my nifty a motor change.. the emax 22042300 is off and a T2204-2280 is on..
the T motor definitely has a bit more thrust and the nifty will now go vertical , all be its slightly on the slower side..
note here.. the AUW makes all the difference as my deltaV with the same motor is the best of all going vertical...only 1/2oz lighter but has noticeably better...
I wonder what a high kv blue wonder might do.. they have more thrust.. so will be my next trial...

more videos for evaluation...

Still a Rocket ... But Very Cool Dave !!! ... we were hoping for something much more sedate for our Nifty LITE... waist high, 6-8 ft. away .... that may not happen no matter how light we get it ...

If you build it light enough you can under power it... mine will fly at under 1/2 power fairly slowly..
perhaps I should try an extra light weight build for indoor flight, I havnt been in that direction with this design....

Time for a smaller one , starting with a 20" out of 3mm depron with an 1811 motor, 6A esc and small servos... I will knock one up..

Here is a nice plank variation, by Thomas B.

a change of wing shape , central fin and a lower fuz has made a lot of difference..

Hi davereap. Have you ever tried a central fin on a Nifty? Just curious. BTW, I have built a full size Nifty a few years ago from $ Tree foam. I remember it to fly well. Planning on building a 24" next project. Bought some foam today:-)

... a couple of month ago I've built the "Blank Plank". It looks really similar to Dave' s version!?
KFm 2, all 9mm depron, wingspan 1m, wing depth 0,34m, motor AL2830 v3 1300rpm/V, flying weight 517g with 3s 2200mAh.
