And now for something completely different..

A little OT, but the slope group is a lot more fun than some of the more relevant groups and since one or two of you have asked...

My latest rebuild. 276" span, nominal wing loading of 140-230 oz/sq ft. 15,200 oz. empty, room for ~10,300 oz ballast...and it's slower than a decent DS ship but can sustain it longer and farther

I'm taking some time off from R/C to rebuild my RV-4 from the inside out. First flight was in early 2004 and I flew it as much as could in 2004 , then life got in the way and it was disassembled and moved from the midwest to the west coast. It's getting a new panel, paint, electrical, and an engine overhaul.

I'm still cutting wings if anyone needs anything - it's 'fire and forget' and I'm in the shop anyway

Anyone know of a paint shop in Socal that will rent booth time?

Nauga,
who is off to look for his parachute

Nice!!!

Van's machines, especially the RV3 and RV4, have been long time favorites of mine.

There was / (is ?) a spray booth for rent at the Corona airport, I haven't been at the airport for a while but used it several years ago to paint a mooney. You might also check the pacific flyer, (www.pacificflyer.com), I have seen ads in thier classifieds for booths before...

Good luck, oh and nice RV!!

Before we started building it I arranged a demo ride for my wife - she flew an RV-4 before I did. We ordered the first kit the evening of her flight

@Alex: It's got a 160hp Lycoming engine. It's close to the low end of the RV-4 power range but it would climb at 1500 ft/min and cruise at 160 knots without breaking a sweat. It should also be a bit lighter after the rebuild so maybe a little better performance.

@Justin: PSS? I hope not. I got a few minutes of glider time in it as part of testing but it's not something I care to do often...or close to the slope

@chris_b: Thanks for the lead on the booth at Corona. I'll check it out.

I'm going to ask the mods if they can move this thread to my blog and keep things on topic here. Thanks for indulging me

Nauga,

When nauga says "and now for something different" it just seems...well... redundant.
I mean, jeez. Everything you do is different.

Hey Nauga!
Doesn't this belong in the powered forum
Nice RV!
Can you tell everyone how many hours it takes to build a really big kit like that?

From first hole drilled to first flight took me about 2000 hours spread over 12 years, including two moves (for me, three for the airplane), a career change, a child (now a teenager), grad school, and a full-time job the whole time. Most people don't take that long and newer kits have a lot more prefab work done. I wouldn't have done it any other way.
