Yippee!
Super Sportwin
Just an FYI for you guys....
Remember the famous "Sportwin" Speed 400 bird from 2001? After much prodding and technoligical increases, I've started design work on the "Super Sportwin". This bird will be 50" span for using 48" wood for the wings, Brushless/Lipo, with provisions for retracts. It keeps the same super -sexy Sportwin lines, and easy build techniques. If there is interest, I can post a build thread as well. Mark |

Go for it, mark!
You may recall that I built a 48" version a few years back. Looked nice, but would have flown a lot better on the current crop of cheap outrunners and Li-pos! tim |

Well, I am trying to make it buildable for outrunners and inrunners. I tend to like high-winding, high-rpm inrunners on a model like this.
It'll have a thick ply firewalls that can support outrunners, yet leave room for inrunners and motor mounts. Right now I have it set for 2" spinners, a common and cheap size. Mark |

The best way is to mount them from the front like a 400, it puts any chance of vibration to rest as opposed to a firewall mount where the entire motor, adapter and prop is hanging WAY out front. My opinion anyway. Works well on my little Curare....

Wait, wait! I've gotta finish my original size sportwin first! I guess I can have two builds at the same time...
And yes, Please do post a build thread! |

UPDATE: The rough drawing are done, and I may start building soon, time permitting.
It is set up for 2" spinners, more than likely inrunners (but there is room for hot outrunners as well. ) Mechanical retracts that rotate forward, and 2 1/4" tires. I'm going with landing gear doors rather than a hole (looks kinda unfinished that way), so it's been a complicated ship to design compared to the original, though it really keeps the spirit of the Sportwin. Can be built one-piece (my advice for simplicity and strength) or with removable wing. Mark |

The original has a built up wing.
This one will be foam because it is not flat-bottom aifoil. I can provide templates to a cutter if someone needs cores cut, that is no big deal. We just need to find a reputable cutter and let me know. Mark |
