Thought I'd join RCGroups Saito club. I've got a Rascal 110 with a 150, a Kadet Sr. with a 91, a PT-19 with a 65, and a four star 40 kit that may have a an old 50 in it's future...

I've also owned a couple 82's over the years in planes that are no longer in my hangar.

They call it the FG-14. You will have extra weight from the ignition and ignition batt.
If you do the currency coversion it comes to $630 . WOW !!!

Looks sweet though . I wouldn't use there mount though . It's cast not billet .

*******CJNeal , Welcome and nice birds .********

A friend in my club has a PT-19 and puts little people with parachutes in the cockpit . Then does a roll and they come out floating , if there chutes open .

I assume my new Saito 82 is in the mail. Any tips on the break in other than follow the instructions. Any instructions I should not follow and do something else instead. How much fuel do I have to run through it before I can fly it?

Should I put a velocity stack on the 82a? The word document by Robison mentioned earlier in this thread says they save fuel. Horizon says this one:SAI50GK93 by Saito Engines fits the Golden Knight 82a so should I assume it fits the regular 82a.

U2, here's some links where saito break-in is discussed:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...php?p=12614516

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...php?p=12187604

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...14&postcount=3

The only difference between the golden knight 82 and the regular one is the velocity stack and the black coating/gold colored valve covers. So it will fit. The v-stacks are about $7 so I ordered one when I bought my new on-sale 82.

My GK .82 has the stack and it doesn't spit fuel like I've heard that some do. I've read but don't know that they increase fuel economy.

If mounting on a profile plane, you may have to drill out a little area on the fuse for v-stack to fit but that's no problem.

U2, just remember that the first 10 minutes is with the throttle at 1/4 to 1/3rd open. Some have gotten confused and think that the throttle should be open all the way and the mixture so rich it will only turn 4,000. As soon as the first 10 minutes are done I lean the mixture so it will run without the glow lighter attached. That's still pretty rich.

Federico...do you have a tachometer? This is the best way to determine the if you're using the right prop. I usually prop my saitos so that they do not run above 8500 rpm static (on the ground) when at full throttle.

I answered this in the other thread but here goes again, 12.5x7 will allow it to overrev big time.
Good stuff ITobor...always good to go back to the book.

Like CJ says, 8500 static is around max load on a motor.

10K static is about max static that you want.

When you get around 10,500 then you will overrev the motor in the air when it unloads.

Hey there DR, I tend to prop the .50 and over Saitos in the mid nines and the .45 and under at about 10,000, the little .30s really shine at about 10,100 on a Graupner 10x6 or 10.5x5.

Mike,

Would you consider going back and editing post #1 to add a direct link to this page of the thread and maybe label it "saito break-in" or similar. It would make it much easier to find the saito break-in procedures on this page. Otherwise, this page will eventually be lost in the sea of other pages in this thread.

Thanks.
Rodney

FWIW, I was running a master airscrew 14x7 3-blade prop on my saito 1.00. It was turning around 9300-9500 static on 15% fuel.

You might have trouble getting air in there with a stack on it . You will have to have a hole cut through the motormount on the Primo or it will be a small gap in there .

Hows that RodneyGT , I assume you were talking about I Tober's tip .
