Build Log
1:10 scale Yellow A/C CAF-188 (F-18)
While I'm waiting on my nose gear for the A-7 I was able to start a Yellow F-18 project. I picked up the kit a month or so ago (from Doug B) which had been started.
Scale: 1/10 Length: 67.5" Wingspan: 47" Weight: 11-13 lbs (mfg est.) Power: Dyn-e-max fan / Scorpion HK-4035-630KV motor Fuel: Qty 2, XPS Pro 6S1P 5000mAh Lipo packs Flap/Aileron control: JR 3421 servos driving RDS actuation. Gear: Yellow A/C retracts and wheels, RCCrafters scale struts I'm at the point of glassing the wings, stab, fins, ailerons, and flaps. I'll post some pics of my progress this week. Color scheme...Canadian...of course. |

I've corrected the title but have however read it written both ways...also they use CF-18A and CF-18B's...according to what I've read.
There are a number of really cool schemes, I'll post a few for those following the thread, as well as the one I've settled on. |

Here's a couple other Canadian schemes that were also given consideration...

Hi, strictlyscale! Thx for sharing all those colour schemes!
Can you share how you purchased those Leading Edge decals? I tried to order the 20th anniversary wasp sheet when I built a semi-scale 1/12 version; but was somehow unsuccessful. The CAF has a very artistic fellow who originated these schemes. Glad the US Navy has since initiated the color bird system; the camo gray just did not make a high vis model. I'll be watching your progress. Please keep posting. Phil |

For everyone else, here's a few pictures of the scheme I'll be duplicating for me CF-18. I'll post more pics when I break out the paint supplies. |

Thx for the offer! The 20th anniversary wasp is a great scheme. It and the AETC scheme were the only ones available at the time; & I got a scan from another kind soul on this forum & manage to hand paint that, except for the spray painted pastel feathers on the wings.
Can't wait to see how yours turn out. Phil |

Sean,
These are a few pictures I took at the Winamac jet rally this past weekend. The detail was crazy and dead on and flew with a set of turbines. This Canadian F-18 had some power! I to will be keeping a close eye on this thread. Chris |

Thanks Phil, even with simple tools the result is quite convincing. Thanks for sharing.

Sean,
Thats going to be an incredible scheme! Hi-vis, easily recognizable top and bottom. So many other excellent paint schemes to choose from too. I found that info on the RDS will do some reading at work tomorrow, I like how it hides neatly in the wing and flight controls, no messy rods/horns/fairings. Mark |

MArk,
Mine arrived today. I'll post some pics when I get to installing them. Here's some additional reading on the RDS system for you: http://augiemckibben.tripod.com/site...ive_system.pdf |

Sean,
Thanks for the reading material, that's exactly what I was looking for. Also looking forward to seeing what the system looks like, and your impression of how it's going to work in the Jet. After I read the file you sent me, i'll have lots of questions for you (hope you don't mind, I can always send it PM if you like). Mark |
