I am building a composite version of the squall. If it is still possible, can you weigh the bare airframe for a comparison to my composite one?
Fuse and Intake: 102gms
Wings: 38gms (combined)
Vertical Stabiliser: 9gms
Canopy, Nose Cone and Exhaust: 57gms

and

Morgan Rc Extended Intake: 88gms

All the best with the build!!

Thank you!
If my airframe comes to about 350g total, I will be happy!

Servos?

I picked up one of these today at the LHS, he threw in some servos he had kicking around, they are hitec hsg-5084mg's, seem pretty big for this plane and def. won't fit the servo holes, just curious what people think, should I use these or get something cheaper and keep these for the heli's?

well u dont need that much servo but u do need something strong as the full flying surfaces tend to get hung up and strip wimpy gears. 9-12gram mg's work, but if u can fit the others................

Ok I like your paint job and so I went and bought the tangerine paint similar to your orange. I tested it and I really like that paint. There is no chalky-ness to it at all. I really sprayed a test piece of foam good and thick trying to make the foam melt and the paint did fine with no foam distortion at all. The paint doesnt seem to be satin finish though, not much shine at all, but I am ok with that.

Are you guys taking the aileron and rudder hinge tape off to paint it? I guess you are, then how are you reinforcing the hinges? More tape after the paint or using regular hinge material, or are you just not using anything?
Please let us know....
Also, has anyone had any trouble with the stock esc?
Looks like my blue canopy has some little bubbles in it, not so great. Also the tail cone isnt painted good, more bubbles....how about yours?

I think I'll save these for other projects. What's a good inexpensive servo for this plane?

Tom,

My experience is they tend not to center very well. The best cheap 9 gram servo is the Hobbyking HXT900.

You tried those same ones, digital and metal geared, and found them not to center well? Seems odd as these are the "best" cheap servos hobbypartz has. HobbyKing takes forever to ship stuff vs. hobbypartz I'll have them next week...

tom, i am not sure about that servo but u are doing the right w/ the mg's, dont use a hxt900 in this app.

That's what I figured, the servo I linked to seemed to be a good fit specs wise at least. Hopefully they work out.

Good point but the HXT900 has been flying in a 70 mph prop in the slot F22 I scratchbuilt for the last 3 years and I never stripped a gear. It is able to take a great deal of abuse in this elevon plane.

the hxt is my go to servo when mg is not needed, but in this case w/ full flying elevons it is very easy to snag the surface on landing, stripping the gear train.

chuck,

I understand. That said, the little F22 is an elevon plane with servos on the bottom. I am just lucky.
