White spirit in fuel?

Can you put white spirit into fuel, or will this not work?

That's a good question.

I have a couple of gallons but I'd never try it without some of the experts chiming in and explaining things in more detail.

I suspect, no. It probably won't mix well with the oils we use.

However you said fuel but did not list the type of fuel you refer to. I reply on the assumption of methanol fuel.

If you mean gasoline, then yes you probably could mix 10% into it, but I'm no expert.

People are running 50/50 methanol and gasoline in engines. You could do the same with white spirits. It will considerably lower the octane rating of the fuel and this may or may not be a problem for the engine you are using. The glow plug is also not as effective, so you may find it needs to be powered all the time to run the engine.

It's not a common practice so you'd be on your own. If you want to save money on fuel, the easiest way is to run methanol oil with no nitro. No modifications required.

I've never been able to get methanol to mix well with gasoline.

Hi,

What do some of you call "white spirit" .

White spirit here is sold at the liquor store at over $30.00 a litre.

It is also called vodka.

No, I don't bother with Nazi-land any more :-/

Edit: someone complained about this post. It looks as if RCU moderators also use RCG :-)

No, I'm *not* going to change it just because it puts someone's nose out of joint.

GAS/GLOW works great and yes it's 1 part glow fuel mixed with 2 parts premium gasoline and as long as you get good gasoline the two stay mixed just fine, we use the mix in a converted weedeater engine on an OS 4 stroke glow plug.

Try White Lightning. You don't buy it at liquor stores and you don't pay tax on it.

I would say that the white spirit referred to here is low octane gasoline used for gasoline lamps and stoves and sometimes also called mineral turpentine when used with paint.

Correct me if my memory is playing tricks, but I remember from somewhere that acetone acts as an aid to mixing methanol and oils or alkanes such as gasoline.

I dont know if countries have regional names, but it is naptha, a fraction from the fractional distillation of crude oil. The substance is used for cleaning brushes, and yes, it is used for parrafin lamps, but i am wondering if you can mix hydrocarbons with methanol-based fues.
