Using SketchUp to Create FMS Models
Looks like it is possible to use SketchUp to create FMS models. Which is nice because it is so easy to use.
The pipeline is: Sketchup -> Blender -> Metasequoia -> FMS I used info from this thread: http://forums.devshed.com/showpost.p...07&postcount=4 http://forums.devshed.com/showpost.p...05&postcount=6 as a basis. Some things have changed: 1. download blender but use the zip version not the exe (exe is missing some script files) 2. Download the COLLADA plug-in for Blender from http://sourceforge.net/projects/colladablender/ use version colladablender1.4v0.3.108 as the newer ones do not do the conversion. unzip the file and copy all files and dirs to .blender/scripts which is probably located in C:\Program Files\Blender\.blender\scripts 3. Export your model from sketchup as a google earth kmz file. rename this to .zip and unzip it. you want the .dae file, probably in the models dir. 4. load the .dae file in blender using the 'import collada 1.4 dae' option. 5. export as LightWave .lwo file. 6. open the .lwo file in Metasequoia, That's as far as I've gotten today. I think at this point someone w/knowledge of FMS/Metas could use the model to create a new FMS plane. I don't know how to do that myself. Hope this helps. It may provide a nice path ti fly some of those phatprinter models in FMS! |

Good point. That's how I did the proof of concept photo.
At that point, one might be able to use the gui par editor (found it on my harddrive, so it's around somewhere) to tweak the model. Quote:

The parEditor for version 2.8 par-files can be found here:
http://rcp.web.infoseek.co.jp/fms_e.html The graphic interface makes editing or creating par-files rather intuitive. Regards |
