As I've just written this note to myself, I may as well post it here, even though the question is six weeks old:
"Shida NiMH 4 x 1/2 AAA 4.8V 220mAh" arranged 2x2 inline
The JST plug is reverse wired!
The charger charges in around 20-45 mins (apparently - didn't time it). It blinks while charging then stops. No idea if it keeps trickling.
To charge other 4 cell batteries, I'd need a reversing lead. No idea if it survives having a none-reversed pack plugged into the charger.
I'd also need a reversing lead to charge with my Apache charger. It should be safe to get it wrong with that one though.
Overall pack dimensions
48mm long (inc end caps) x 10.5mm thick in the middle (cell diamter + shrink wrap)
21.9mm wide and 11.5mm thick including end caps
Exposed wire of JST lead is 25mm long, so about 30mm of wire.
The closest match to the cells in the UK is www.component-shop.co.uk 210mAh 1/2 AAA (under Batteries->Radio control->Single cells):
1.2V 210mAh NiMH 1/2AAA Single Cell
22mm long x 10.3mm diameter with solder tags.
£0.74 discounted price for 10+
£0.68 discounted price for 50+
- price is around $1 per cell.
Add some cardboard and tape for end caps and maybe some heat shrink.
I bought some of those 210mAh 1/2 AAA NiMH cells made up as 4 cell packs, arranged 2x2, then rearranged them to fit. Not quite as good as the original but still pretty good:
