I have been following this Genie plane on the HM website for a bit and am pleased to see your plans are coming through on the kit.

Keep us updated while i make room in the garage for another project.....

Hi John:

Yes, I've started a build log for the AJ. It is on my site, www.vintagesailplaner.com. All pics are taken, just need to add the text. Sort of overwhelmed with the Genie's coming out......
Will get to it very soon.
Thanks for looking
Jim

Can you provide some details about what's included in the full wing/fuse kit, vs the short? Do the wing kits consist of cores only, or is cloth included? I'm intrigued.

Got this from the Web site-

Coming soon!!!
We are very pleased to announce that we have received permission to start kiting a full woody version of Harley Michaelis' Genie in both full and short kits.
Prices are yet to be determined.

Sounds like it's a woody!

Hi!

Go to Website www.vintagesailplaner.com.

This is an ALL WOOD kit. Easy to build, the old fashion way!!!

Short kit is shown in Pic #1. Full kit includes everything to finish ship EXCEPT glass for fuse (and covering material) - if you decide to glass fuse. This is an option that many builders skip.

If you want the glass for fuse, I would be happy to include at cost.

I also do not include the RDS system - some modelers would not want to pay for them, included, in kit price. They are available from the Harley Website. Regular hinges and horns are included in the hardware package.

Hope this helps!
THANKS for looking!!!!
Jim

Has the wood version of the Genie been built and flown yet? Is it still full house, or RES? Anyone got a report to share?

Harley is so adament about changes to the basic concept and design of the original Genie line, (and so anti-stick built wings), it seems hard to believe he would allow the Genie name and design to be used.

ALL WOOD Smooth Genie Pro

Dion:
......email has a habit of distorting the meaning of some statements......

Yes I have Harley's blessing!
Yes it flies like a Genie, IT IS supposed to.
It is identical to his design - it is just a wood version!!!!! No big deal!

Just a lot cheaper and a lot easier to build!!!
Laser cut parts for the fuse that HAVE NOT been available!!!!!!

AND IT IS NOW LEGAL FOR WOODIE CONTESTS!!!!!!! Which, are becoming more popular.................. But, yes, I know you have to be a builder.....

this process has been in the works for almost a year

Cheers!!!!
Jim
PS: How many kits do you wish to order?

Jim,

My note was not intended to be negative. Actually, I'm shocked more than anything. I have been following the Genie line for years, and it is on my bucket list of building projects, possibly even this Winter. I have conversed with Harley many times including the 2 page email he sent me when I suggested the idea of a Genie with a built up wing. He was 'critical' of my idea to put it lightly, and basically asked me why I would suggest such a stupid idea.

Typically when a new plane is released anymore, it seems to come along with a flight report, build log, etc. You may end up getting some of my hard earned $, but I'd like to also hear how it flies and see a few pictures, understand the specs, and hear from someone who has flown it other then the person selling it. I don't think that is too much to ask.

Oh, and does the new built-up wing come with a new set of wing plans too? Yes, I am also very intrigued.

Yes, I'm a builder (Sagitta 900, Allegro Light in the past 2 years), and am about to start on a Bubble Dancer. Please give me a good reason to consider this kit instead.

Tell You What!!!

Dion:
I just "YESTERDAY" received the laser cut parts.
Since, I just got them in my shop - no one COULD HAVE built one, much less fly it!!!!!!

The only non Harley thing is the wing which has the same airfoil, aspect ratio, chord, etc!!!!!!!!!!

Tell you what:

Send me your address, and I will send to you the BASIC laser cut parts: fuse sides, formers, and ribs. You build it and post your review on HOW it flies in return.

No cost to you!
cheers
Jim

No Foam

Jared:
Just like an Aquila, Saggitta - wood fuse and rib, spar, webbing, and sheeting. See wbesite for a pic of the ribs.
Thanks for asking!
