Inclined Planes were very common on the canals in the eastern US. We had several of them along the Morris Canal (it ran not too far from my house). When they (Jim Lee and family) were restoring #9 west plane's tailrace, they found limestone stalagmites and stalactites that, had they not been in a 100-year-old manmade structure, would have been called by "scientists" to be "tens or hundreds of thousands" of years old. Jim Lee Sr. visited our school when I was a kid and spoke about it. It's a really nice place to visit if you ever have time.

one for the old and a new one(s)

next entrant for the submarine races.

Found this oddball on uglyships.com If nothing else this would be pretty entertaining to build.
