Yes, Colman's tins are excellent...I have made several small tanks from this source.....unfortunately they all seem to have plastic lids nowadays, but if you like mustard you could always get 2 tins, cut them to desired lengths and fiddle them together....still a good option...

I check my PAW 1.49, no sign of light through the exhaust port at TDC on the old version!

Here we have a beautifully made replica of a 1946 Ouragan 3.36cc Diesel. This exquisite jewel made in France by master machinist Michel Molinie. Note the compression adjust is via eccentric front bearing, the curious front facing exhaust, and the ED Comp. Special type of fabricated exterior transfer passage.

A quaint design, aren't they? The maker bench tested this particular engine, and recorded 6,400 rpm on a Zinger 8 x 4 prop, which he says, should rise to 6,800 when fully run-in. An 8 inch prop seems rather small to me for a 3.3cc Diesel, and Michel recommends a 9 x 4 - "for your fingers sake." I would have thought an engine this size would easily turn a 10.5 or 10 inch prop at least, but maybe the traditional (highly conservative) porting & timing of these old French engines rules that out. And just harking back to the question of PAW sub-piston induction, in his April 1961 Engine Test of the PAW 2.49 Mk. 3 in Model Aircraft, Peter Chinn states that it has "sub-piston supplementary air induction."

Those Gallic cooling fins are so elegant - there was a lovely looking engine, the Allouchery Cormorant, which I am trying to find in my picture box - although they did claim, perhaps with a shrug, 0.5 HP for this Oliver-sized Petomane.

Appears he may have taken a laxative just before injesting a sleeping pill. Any position is better than laying down I suppose.

That's it Twin-Stack - the Turbolid ! - I remember Peter Chinn saying that it was vaunted " avec compressuer " , but in his dry way he said that since the vanes rotated at crankshaft speed only, its value must be in marketing appeal rather than in performance boost. Lovely looking engine, what?

The expectant poseur in the photo is Le Petomane, a riotous music-hall performer of the early 20th C. His performances brought tears to the eyes of The Prince of Wales. I will leave you guys to research the rest.

Is anyone familiar with an
Oliver Tiger Twin 2.5+2.5=5.0cc
In the early 1980's there was talk of this engine, and Gluehand mentioned it earlier in this post.
