I acquired this Taifun Hurrikan recently, minus needle valve assembly, in the hope of cobbling something together to make it run. The compression is good.

It appear that there is more than just the needle valve missing. Unfortunately they normally have a green hemispherical cover over the rear end, so all the photos on the net don't show what I am missing.

Is anyone able to post a photo of what they look like without the green cover?

Check my list of diesel (and glow) engine test reports here. You just might find the Hurrikan listed with a photo of the back end .

The early ones did not have the green hemispherical cover, as the attached picture shows. . Check the serial number of yours, this one is no. 3677.
Your engine is missing the peripheral jet assembly with spraybar, spring and needle, also the backplate intake duct looks like is was drilled to take a regular spraybar at some stage...

Just a remark for J-M and Reggie.
I don't know very much about the Taifun Hurrikan, but I thought that there was a definite Mk I, without the rear cover, and then a definite "officially designated" (!) Mk II, with the rear cover.
That may be wrong, but it's been vaguely in my mind for the last 30-odd years...
Reggie, I think Danny will know...

Thanks for the responses everyone. Mine must be a Mk II then. The serial is 66618. The backplate has a pronounced shoulder on it that the cover must have attached to. Also mine does not have a screw-on venturi, or any evidence of four perpheral jets. Perhaps it had a central spraybar that fitted to a block shaped piece that slid over the intake duct.
At least that's what I'm thinking of fabricating.

The page I've shown comes out of the Holger Menrad books. The only II (whitout the mentionning of Mk) I can find is for the Taifun Rasant of 1968.

Yes, I definitely remember seeing one with the green back, and it was a solid piece, not a cover, same as used for the Blizzard.

Well you may be right after all, in the Taifun book variante 1 und 2 are shown,
variation is only the distance of the carb to the rear cover. More amazing are the rather large variations in green anodising.

Yes a solid piece of green anodised aluminium, blue on the Blizzard.
