Esky Big Lama (EK1H-E020) Mods & Upgrades
The Esky Big Lama Mods & Upgrades thread with some useful information that will hopefully help others.
370 Motors: Fit the Esky heat sinks EK1-0224 x 2 or GWS EHS-300 24.3mm Dia heat sinks (Red) x 2 to help reduce the heat from the STD 370 motors. Servo Arms: Fit new servo arms and move the push rods (EK1-0371) out to the forth hole then remove the excess from the end of the servo arm and round the corners so they will miss the canopy. This will then give you better forward & reverse control when you are outdoors. Blades A & B Stick with the STD Esky blades for now as all of the after market blades that are on the market are too flexible for the Big Lama. The B blades will hit the A blade when under normal flight loaded. Easy Landing Skid Mod (Stops the main frame from flexing with 11.1V 1000Mah battery holder as well) From 1mm plastic sheet, cut the plastic sheet to 75mm x 40mm then drill 4 holes in plastic sheet to fit the plastic sheet to the existing Landing Skid screws. This then stops the main frame from flexing (Motor gears moving away from the Drive Gears) and you can also use the plastic sheet as an 11.1V 1000mah battery holder using some Velcro strap, see below picture. Swashplate Mod Remove the original EK1-0367 Swashplate and then fit the EK1-0522 swashplate (Belt CP STD) or if you like the purple "Bling" fit the EK5-0203 swashplate (Belt CP Upgrade). Once you have changed the Swashplate you can then lower the EK1-0363 center Hub Set B to the holes that are located 5mm lower down the EK1-0366 Drive Gear Set B (Shaft) and then adjust the EK1-0371 and EK1-0372 push rods right down to make the Swashplate level. This will then reduce the risk of the B blades hitting the A blades and give you better Swashplate control, see below picture(s). Xtreme Productions The below is the e-mail reply from Xtreme Productions, this will be the go when it happens? Yes, we are already working on the big lama; we will have a series of tuning parts, just like the small lama. Metal parts, blades, motor, conversion kit, etc Update from Xtreme Productions Big lama tuning parts expected release in June We will put some pictures on our web site this week http://www.xtreme-production.com/xtreme/ Update two from Xtreme Productions (New 12/06/09) The pictures for the Upgrade Big Lama parts are now on the Xtreme Productions web site, looks good. http://www.xtreme-production.com/xtr...id=27&Itemid=1 Upgrade parts for Big Lama is coming soon: - Harden Blades - Extended inner shaft - Metal Blade grips - Metal Bearing Housing for Main Shaft decent-devil 250' MD500 Fiber Glass Fuselage For Big Lama I found this Fiber Glass Fuselage on the web and notice they have change the main frame around 180 deg to make the push rods (EK1-0371) fit in the Fiber Glass Fuselage. I would say you would then need to reverse the aileron and elevator servo on the TX, see attached pictures and the below spec's and web link. I have E-Mailed Xtreme Productions but they have not replied to me, maybe they are still testing the new Xtreme upgade parts? It could be possible that you will see the new Xtreme upgade parts on Miracle Mart first? Regards Barry |

I heard a rumor Barry, that the stuff supposedly does not really look different from the parts they offer for the small Lama(s). I am really anxious to see the parts when they finally put them up on their site (even though I am convinced that I know higher quality parts anyway, ...
No offense, but as far as the small Lama is concerned, these are the highest quality parts i have been able to find ... and the will come out piece by piece for the BIG as well (right now there are only the lower and upper rotorhead and the upper bearing housing) - but the rest will surely follow in the course of time. Sven,
Yes, the Higher qualtiy parts you have mentioned look vey impresive and will look at trying these. To answer your question on post 84 Anyone tried out the "Big Lama" yet? https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...5&postcount=84 Have a look at the above Swashplate Mod I have justed added. This would more than likely also work with the Align Swashplate or 120ccpm swash plate from Microheli. Also, have a look at the Easy Landing Skid Mod (Stops the main frame from flexing with 11.1V 1000Mah battery holder as well) I have justed added. This will stop the plastic drive gears from being stipped because of the main frame flex. Regards Barry |

How about this? . Actually I plan to move the clamps that hold the battery and connect the actual frame with the landing skid, so that I will be possible to insert bigger batteries in the place where the original ones are now. This would, in combination with the plastic (I would prefer carbon fiber myself) plate this would leave the space below the landing skid free for the guys who like to fly around cameras .... Hey Guys, this isn't an upgrade, but I've just discovered that the Li-Po battery (11.1 V, 800 maH) from my dead E-Flight Blade CP+ fits nicely into the stock battery slot of the Big Lama. Width and height are exactly the same and length is close enough to fit with no mods. Just need a piece of Velcro on the end of the battery.
If you're favorite supplier is out of stock of the E-Sky batteries, your local hobby shop is likely to carry E-Flight stuff. |

What would happen if you tried to use a 2cell 7.4v 1000mah battery on the Big Lama? Would it not have enough power to spin the motors at full speed? Or would it just give you a lesser flight time? I was just curious, as I have several of these batteries for my Lama V4. |

The Walkera 53# and also the Exceed Blazing star (what a surprise - as that is a rebranded walkera) fly on 7.4V Joe. So I cannot imagine there could be any damage.
As much as you see from outside, they all use the same stock motors ... (but I am also not much of an electrician). As far a I know, the RPM will decrease and therefore will you flight time. (which would not be a problem in my case, as my motors happen to be shut down after roughly 5min anyway (seems to be connected to the resistor or whatever it is they soldered to the top of the motors) Sven |

JDFiend,
What is the point, when when the big Lama has the 11.1v LiIPO fitted STD. You will blow the Mosfets in the 3 in 1 contoler if you put them under load with the 7.4V LiIPO, don't do this. Regards Barry |

JDFiend,
Your Best bet now is to purchase the 11.1V 900mAh 15C battery that comes from this EBay Store. http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/happy...0Q2em14QQ_vcZ1 |
