Maybe it will be ready for this weekend - fingers crossed...

Those wheel pants are a struggle, they got put back on once, never again.

You may want to enable flaperons to roll off ground quicker if your radio is capable. For some reason this plane seems to require alot of distance to ROG. I had no problems when enabling flaperons, even off of grass.

What I learned with mine over the last season makes a difference. The taller tires is a given. Also, since its a tail dragger you have to get the tail to fly a little before up stickin. Up elevator just acts as a break pushing force on the ground. I give it a tad of down stick to get the tail light and once speed is up then lightly rotate, seems to work everytime.

Learned that from a 6 ounce indoor Fp3 plane I have in a gym, they are the same way.

Delayed...

Well, I was humming right along and ran into a snag last night...

I need to remove the c-clips on the Rimfire 400 motor but my snap ring pliers don't fit that small 3mm clip.

Local stores don't have anything small enough either.

My online search was prolonged but I found a company that makes a pliers that does 1.5 to 3mm c-clips.

Order placed!

So, this weekend is not happening for the Silhouette.

But there is always next weekend.

Progress - Almost Ready

The snap ring pliers arrived and Wow! they are awesome. Perfect fit for those tiny c-clips on small shafts.

Mounted the motor and ESC over the weekend.
Managed to break the wheel pants so it is now sans-pants (grrr... proformance foam... grrr...)

Tonight I added the control rods and setup the radio programming with the recommended triple rates and my own swag at what the expo should be set at for each rate.

Just need to go thru the CG and lateral balance to determine final battery and RX placement.

This weekend for a maiden is looking good!

That is close to mine, I have the Eflite Park 400, 18 amp Turnigy Plush, and I run the Rhino 3S750.... I try to stay light, the performance foam is not happy with any type of hard landing.

Very very close IMHO.

Where are your ESC, Battery and RX positioned?

I put my ESC under the front of the wing as recommended in the manual.
Just need to figure where the best location for the battery and RX.

Also, thinking that the top of the wing needs some light reinforcement before placing the velcro strip. Thinking out loud - thin, light balsa?

Thanks!

That's about where I figured the battery and RX would end up.

Won't have any time until Saturday to finalize it.

Plan is to fly Sunday.

Finally!!!!

Best CG Location?

The manual says start with the CG at 4" back measured 1" out from fuselage.

Is that the sweet spot for 3D?

What CG location are you guys using?

Thanks,

JC

This looks like a great model for my first excursion into 3D flying. I have a warbird, glider, and PkZone Stryker, but this will be my first 3D plane.

I'm thinking about this plane with the following electronics, does it look OK? I'll be flying this with a OrangeRX and a DX6i. I'm hoping to keep this first build under $120.

PowerUp 400 Slowfly - 1.8oz, 930kv, 27oz of thrust with 9x4 prop
PowerUp 20A ESC - 23g
3 - Emax 8g
800mah SkyLipo 3S 20c - 69g

Would it be too much weight up front with a 2.5oz 450 SlowFly? It puts out 38oz. of thrust @ 18A with an 11x3.8 SF prop.

Also, what is the all up weight of this plane? Is it the 14-16oz mentioned in the manual, or is that without the battery? Thanks!
