Will there be a film of DS'ing Typhoon from downunder quite soon?
Please post a youtube / vimeo!!!!

The only DS'ing Typhoon I've seen untill now is a Japanese movie DS'ing a slope were it is flat fields in the back, but it works well anyway and is a nice video showing what's to come in the spring.

Good to see more Typhoons hitting the slopes. For a while there it seemed like Mike and I were the only ones flying these sweet birds.

Nice init , great to hear you had a succesful maiden.

I have said it before - but it does fly like a bigger model, crisp on all the controls but also very accurate in pitch making a real pleasure to fly fast or slow.

The Typhoon is great fun in anything from 3mph upwards.

Only failing is it needs a stronger wing joiner to up its Ds speed just a bit.

150 would be fine - it would allow the occasional ds to entertaining speeds and if you want to go faster than that you need a ds quality installation as well as a strong enough model.

Steel joiner may just do it -- (must get one sorted asap)

A little tip.

Don't pull the fus out of its bag using the rudder.

That hinge is not as strong as you think - particularly if you had to sand it back to get a decent left rudder throw.

Consequently, my 'Phoon now has an aquarium grade silicon rudder hinge which seems better than the original.

What elevator (amt) throw are you guys using?

Mine is set to 10mm up & down and seems a little sluggish.

Read on a review somewhere that their set up was "12mm or more".

I use all the factory made slot - what ever that measures. Elevator response is 'snappy' but also very grippy, does lovely snappy square loops.

Most of us have it between 84 and 90mm. Start at 84 and go from there.
Would you believe an email sent to me from Skipmiller.com

Like an idiot , I set the amt up with 10mm movement on the inboard edge which is only about 7mm on the outboard edge.

Why do they quote settings at the outboard edges when those at the inboard ones are greater and therefore easier to measure and set up accurately?

A longer servo arm and dialed up servo movement now gives 20mm each way at the inboard edge which is 15mm at the outboard one.

Looking forward to a much livelier machine.

Just need a dry windy day to try it again - the weather is absolute here at the moment.

Elevator power is also a function of your cg position, so I wouldn't worry about factory settings - its all personal.
First find how much the model can handle at your prefered cg. = dive it to gain some speed then pull and hold full up stick.
If the model screws out of the loop, back the throws off a little until it doesn't. Thats then your max throw the model will accept so rate down from there is you want a softer feel, otherwise leave it there.

Typhoon Wing Area

Anyone know the wing area?
Sorry for catching this post late...

The Typhoon has (very close to) a semi-elliptical wing planform.

The area 'A' of this is given by pi*a*b/2, where 'a' & 'b' are the semi-minor & semi-major axes of the ellipse.

In the case of the Typhoon, 'a' corresponds to the root wing chord & 'b' the half-span.

a = 210 mm and b = 1000 mm

Therefore,

A = 22/7 * 210 * 1000 / 2

= 330000 sq-mm

= 511.50 sq-in

= 3.5521 sq-ft

chaush
