Target shooting today. (gun thread)

Well we had a rather large extended family gathering for dinner at my moms house today. (it's out in the country)

Just for fun I brought my 22/45 MK2 and a thousand rounds of ammo to do some plinking. (I bought several thousand rounds of it back in the eighties on sale for pennies a round.)

So many of the kids and half a dozen of the Adults had never shot a gun before.
So I gave a demonstration of proper gun handling technique and a hands on one on one target shoot for any that wanted.
It was fun and a bit scary to coach so many through their very first hands on experience with target shooting a 22 pistol.

Came home with just over two hundred rounds of ammo left.
I quickly realized that teaching them to how to load the clips was a must.
My poor fingers....

Just thought I'd share that, it was a fun day I even got some mountain biking in.

Right on, my thoughts exactly, not one misfire on nearly twenty plus year old ammo.

That barrel never even got past mildly warm and some of the adults and a couple of the kids were grouping a consistent close to center ten shot set after only a few clips each.

My youngest brother was gaining an extremely tight target center group and it was his first time at shooting a pistol.

I popped a few pretty impressive groups myself.

10/22s are a hoot. Nothing like the sound of a hollow point smacking a pesky ground squirrel.

Got my two kids in the backyard yesterday and started testing out patterns on some printable PDF turkey heads.

My daughter, 11, had never shot a shotgun before but she really wants to turkey hunt this year. My son shot his first 3" magnum 20 gauge turkey rounds and afterward said he thought he would just use the 12 gauge this year. I think

I will stick with my bow. I am considering some guillotines this year. The videos of people lopping off turkey heads with them are fascinating yet somewhat disturbing. They seem to do the job though.

Sounds like fun.

It's always a hoot to teach someone gun handling, safety and shooting. More so if they have negative preconceived notions about guns.

It was a busy shooting weekend for me as well, I shot rifle and pistol at the indoor airgun league on Friday night, and shot in a .22 rimfire rifle and pistol three position Bullseye match on Saturday.
We also had three positon airgun as well, I did better with the airgun than with the .22's. Nothing like .22's to bring the FUN back into shooting!!!!
I've been shooting a lot of centerfire pistol(IDPA, IPSC), and there's a lot of EGO involved, kinda like F3F racing.
Some go to compete(and have fun), some go to win (at ALL costs = no fun). And I flew sailplanes after the Saturday match, a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just curious... which airgun(s) are you shooting?

For 3-gun pistol, I generally shoot T/C .22 for rimfire (but the "in thing" now is actually the .17HMR... I am not impressed ) , T/C .223 for CF, and a stainless Commander for .45.

But I haven't tried any airgun yet. Sounds like cheap fun.

I would like to have a quality air rifle but they are pretty expensive.

Here is a link to a bunch of different printable targets.

That's how I learned and I passed it on.

Single shot 22 bolt action rifle with a huge safety pull knob.

For me, it was the Stevens Favorite, drop-block lever action single shot octagon barrel, and a Mossberg 3-shot bolt action .410.
Oh, and the first pistol was some sort of double-nine .22, horse pistol whatever that was....
