K&A OV10 Bronco

Just flew this model with 2 sp400 and 6/4 props, 1900 8 cell pack wt 44oz. Rog easily and flew great..barrel rolls, loops and fly around the circuit inverted i 10-15mph wind. Highly recommend this excellent kit to anyone who wants to buld a great twin engine. Covered with with light grey Ultracote and hand painted a dark blue-grey camoflage? with Russian stars. Looks awesome, I call it my "Rambo Hunter". BY the way got mine from EAM, great and quick service...got it this Monday and flew this Sat. evening.

How did you get it together so fast? I haven't begun building mine but I thought for sure it would take longer. Was it difficult to build? Any tricks you would recommend on the wings? How are the landings?

I may have to wait until I move to build mine. What a bummer. I am putting together a K&A Dago Red that I plan on using a brushless for. K&A's kits are great. I must admit.

Clayton, thats why my family sometimes call me "cellar man". I am sure there are many others with the same affliction ...Actually its a well thought kit..no tricks I used Medium CA and Thin CA througout except for the landingear bulkhead which I use epoxy. Only mod I made, since it had no diheral, was to run the spars across the center bay into each wing panel and if I remember they ended 2 panels from the tip. Continued the spar with a short pieces and put a 1/16" shear web at the joint. I am sure you don't have to do this...just my way for this particular wing. Unforuntately when I find a good kit or a set of plans I pretty much focus on getting it done. In the past 2 months I have built a GeeBee TigerMoth converted to electric using a MM motor and a GP gear box (recommended by a fellow e-zoner)...files great, a scratch built slowfly and the OV-10. The Dago Red should be awesome with a brushless. I have an Averox 1010/2y looking for a home....might be the model. As somebody said "too many airplanes not enough time" I am sure you will get it done and have a great time with it.

Have you checked your current draw with the 6x4 props? I ran mine in parallel, and with the Graupner 6040's it flew fine, but pulled 13 amps per motor...and I lost one motor twice - and then the model the 2nd motor out time.

Seems like the sp400 doesn't last long at anything above 9 or 10 amps.

Good point Terry I will check the draw tonite with the wattmeter! Don't want to lose this one.

Terry, measured amps and pulling 28.6 amps on fully charged (2days ago)battery and 280x+ watts...about 90 watts/#..no wonder flies great. If understand correctly than ea motor is pulling 14.3 ammps!!!! What do you suggest? Change prop size? It got me thinking run a geared setup like the SR-x250!! Let me know your thinking.

I had similar measurements of current - which is why I had two motors burn out.

Problem for me, I could not get the OV-10 to fly well with anything except the Graupner 6040 props...hence that current draw. Tried about 6 other sets...nada. Two sets allowed flights of about 50 feet after launch...gently settling into the grass. But the motors would have lasted quite a bit longer than with 15 amps through each motor.

I was considering remotoring with sp480 direct drives, but the 2nd engine-out - and a bad decision by the pilot - totaled the model. RIP.

Now, I am looking at the Uravitch OV-10. Hey, the two MaxCim's on 14 cells would really look KEWL - be large enough to put in the scale Shark Tooth spoilers...and I would not finish the darned thing before I hit 70.

Will someone please electrify Rich's OV-10?

As to the K&A - go for s480's. There won't be too much downside, just a faster landing speed...and WONDERFUL FLYING!

Terry, here's just what you've been asking for. It's an OV-10 made from the Uravitch designed kit and electrified with Astro power. It was originally made by Bob Jones and has since been sold. If I remember right he has a pair of Astro 05G with 16 cells. Everything Bob does comes out like a jewel and he's had this one at shows at least the last three years that I know of. This picture was taken at last years Half Moon Bay Efly in Northern CA. I hope to see it again at this years BAD2001.

That is not the LARGE Uravitch OV-10, it is Rich's Small one. He now has an 80-inch span one, flew on 2, OS .46's. So I want to have one...with 2 brushless's and 28 or so cells. More if it doesn't climb out at 45 degrees!

Has anyone invented something like the Fire fighter's tool, the Jaws of Life that spread cars that have had their tops crunched down, wide enough to pull bodies out of...anyone have a tool like that so I can stick two hours of building - extra hours - into my day? Then I could do it!

Another great day flying my KA OV10 Bronco. I am so pleased with a twin 400 setup that I scratch/kit bash a A-10. Yes, anotherA-10
I would like to power it with 2 400/300 and the Gunther props ala the Zagi. The motivation for this was Carnation new Cremora plastic containers.....beautiful lines for a nacelle. Like most scratch builders alwys on the lookout for items to use. Anyway, the plane is built wt is 13oz dry. ie, less bat/motors, rc gear and covering. I am confident it sould come close to 18oz with rc and covering. Current specs A = 250sq in. 18 0z = WL = 10.5.

Question???? what is the best bat/motor combo for speed and at least 5 min duration. Naceles struts currently design for 5.5 " props can easily mod to 6". This OV-10 has sure been inspirationaly. I wouuld love to see the 05 Bronco fly!!!
