2011 F3B WC in China:)

The F3B WC will be in China--some 200 miles from Beijing. I am sure that it will be an adventure. It was unclear why the only other bid was withdrawn just moments before the vote at the FAI meeting. The representative making the bid really had little understanding of the event due to his comment that F5B did not require a large area to fly. I suspect they will figure it out soon enough.

Perhaps they will give new meaning to the term 'Spot Landing'.

That will make the thermal task interesting! Good luck following those thermals down wind they will go out of sight very quickly (smog)

Didn't even know F3B had a following in China

Hmm, are you sure they were not discussing F3J, since f3B is still more than 2 years out. In the recent past, WC site selection is hardly a year out, let alone 2+

The above was cut and pasted from the FAI aeromodeling calendar. Don't know where you got your info Steve, but at least in the last 4 cycles, China has not even sent a team to fly F3B in the WC's.

Would be interesting though.

From Terry Edmonds who attended the recent CIAM meeting.

"I forgot to list the latest approved WC schedule in my CIAM report. Here it is:

2009 F3B Czech Republic
2010 F3J France
2011 F3B China

Terry"

The US is working on a bid to host the 2012 F3J WC.

Wow, even the FAI event calendar does not have that updated, and they had a bid from Spain... Hmm.. But hey, China would be cool.

The FAI-CIAM website ist'n updated with CIAM's Plenary Meeting approved proposals.

The Spain bid was withdrawed and China has made a firm bid.
The F3B-2011-WC was awarded to China.

I was right there in the room with everyone else at the FAI meeting--and sort of surprised that how it came down. With the bid from Spain being withdrawn at the last second leaving only China as the option there was little choice. The presentation by China did not indicate that there was much knowledge of the event or how it was run. The comment that was telling was that "they liked the fact it did not take much room". I guess they will learn fast.

What if they realize they don't have the resources, is there an alternate?

Sorry Steve, I didn't realize you were actually there. Very interesting about your last post. I would believe exactly as you said...they seem to not know what the competition, or the tasks for that matter, intail.

Does anyone know when there was a team from China competing at the B worlds?

Curious if at all?

Mike
