Fokker Dr1 - 1/9th Scale (Qrome Style)

Ok, this is something I have wanted to do for a long time. Yes, a Fokker Dr1 -- 1/9th scale putting the wingspan at 31.5 inches. This is an original project from scale drawings. I just got the wood sheets laser cut from Jim at JTechLaser -- they do great work.

Update 8/25/2009 -- plans are now available http://www.blueskyrc.com/index.php?m...=index&cPath=3

Update 7/27/2015 -- Kits available from: http://hangarcats.com/index.php?main...&products_id=5

Edit (5/4/2009) Adding the maiden video:
Fokker Dr1 - 31 inch wing Maiden Flight (3 min 23 sec)

Consider me well and truly interested

Around the 30" mark is a nice size for a Dr1 - big enough but not too big. Got a colour scheme picked out for it yet?

Thanks Steve. Yes, I am thinking of doing Rudolf Klimke's Dr1 (577/17). There are quite a few that I would like to do. A few years back, I built Pat's 25" Fokker Dr1 and covered it in the common red / white scheme. Ever since then I wanted a larger scale and more rugged.

Never seen that particular scheme modelled before - go for it! Looks to have good contrast for visibility too.

Darn it David. Seeing it starting to be framed up as got me thinking. I did cut 2 sets of the 1/4 out.................might have to fire up the laser and burn some more wood.....LOL.

Yes, Jim, Please do... I have the full size plans printed for you and I will drop them off when I come pick up the outer wing struts.

Heather and Cat just said we need to build one. Maybe with their help we could finish one pretty quick.

Looking good there David.
When you're next over at Jims please can you get him to push either the button marked <48" Be2c> or <48" Bristol Scout> on his laser cutter........

Regards

Thanks Gordon, I understand that Jim has many buttons to be pushing right now. They are very busy. Good to hear from you!

I finished the elevator -- joined the two sides with 1/8 spruce stick. I bent the center wing struts and stitched them to the 1/16th parts and started sheeting the top of the fuse.
