Charger,

I'm at work now, but it is marked in the side view of the plan with a small triangle under the wing. When I get home I can get you a dimension from the CAD file. It is 25-30% of the Cord though just like you said. It's the same as the Blu-Baby.

Thanks, I put it at 2.5-3 in from leading edge with my floats. I brought her out of retirement for float flying. Of course my motor is history so I'm trying a BP21 3s with 8X4 prop. So I had to shift the float gear forward to compensate for the lighter motor. Also sealed the battery compartment and moved my battery under the wing. Charger

Crashing Pilot

Thanks for the plan

Hello BlueFFF.. I would like to take up this opportunity to thank you, on this Thanksgiving, for such a detailed plan.. I was able to build a foamy from scratch in just 2 weekends

Here is a indoor control surface test video.
Piper J-3 Cub - 44" Wingspan Foamy - Scratch Made (Radio Controlled) (2 min 21 sec)

Should be able to do maiden tomorrow.. Thank you once again... cheers

findvikas,

I think you balance is not set quite right. You may want to try a couple of hand tosses with no power over tall grass to see how she glides. Also you built it with a flat wing and those are harder to handle, because it will not self right itself so you need the aileron controls to stabilize the plane. I like at lease some diahedral on my wings to give the planes some natural ability to right them selves. Otherwise she looks great and I'm glad you were able to post a vid for us. Enjoy your new Cub and keep us posted.

Crashing Pilot
Thanks for the suggestions... Actually its a novice pilot's issue... one of my friend tried his hands (he has more RC flying hours) and was able to fly it just fine.

Few self observations while flying...
- forget to leave the ailerons while turning.... result... tip stall
- over controlling... always want to control it... result... goes out of control and result in crash
- flying at 100% all the time... result... not enough time to control before crash
- flying near ground... hoping that it will have less impact on crash... but actual result is more prone to crashes..

Next time what I would like to do, and any new pilot should do is...

- Use rudders instead of ailerons... just give gradual turns... turn.. leave..turn..leave...turn... leave.. use elevator to level while turning..
- let the plane fly itself... it does not need inputs if flying leveled.
- try to fly at 50% if possible else 3/4th throttle..
- take it as high as possible to give yourself enough time to recover from a tip stall..

Put some decals on it... I am very much afraid to fly & crash this beauty..

findvikas,

Looks very nice. You'll get the hang of flying it with practice. Don't worry to much about damaging it. Remember it's only foam and you can repair it or build another.

Have fun with it!

slowfly53,

It is an easy to build fun to fly trainer type plane. Builds just like the BlueBaby also highly recommended. This Cub was modeled with the same build style and overall scale as the BlueBaby 42" as part of a tribute competition.
