Fantastic Valenta Volcano

Thought I'd post a few photos of this plane, as there seems to be little available in the English-speaking forums.

I've got a load of smaller aerobatic planes (Le Fish, Wasabi, Voltij, Multifun etc.), as well as various F3x mouldies (Acaia II, Furio V, Tragi 705, even Miraj ). Thing is, there is no competition scene here in Ireland. As nice as the racing mouldies are to fly, they aren't really (IMO) the prettiest planes out there with their very skinny fuzzes, and they're a bit of a waste really if I can't race them .. So, I started hankering after something a bit more shapely, with the ability to do some nice "big plane" aerobatics at some of the huge, big-lift slopes here in Co. Kerry. I don't want to be too disappointed either flying this after the competition mouldies, which rules out a lot of very nice non-moulded gliders.. Valenta's Volcano seems to fit the bill, and is very reasonably priced for a 3.7 m fully-moulded plane. Valenta market this as being in the "Alpina" type of plane category. Sounds like fun !

The box arrived from Staufenbeil in Germany a few months ago. As you can see, it was a huge box ! A few seconds later I was bench-flying her!

Oh Nice!!! I just finished a Tangent 4m ASH26 with the same mind-set, I have several Valenta planes and I was thinking about an ESO but this looks better , Six or Eight servo wing?

The wing joiner is 14 mm thick, 16" long. Seems to be some sort of composite of a steel tube and carbon-looking filling?

The wings use 6 servos: each wing has one for ailerons, one for flaps, and one for spoilers. I'll probably be using Futaba s3150's throughout. The flaps are top-hinged, which means they must be intended more as extensions of the 'rons, than for braking: hence the spoilers.

Before You start, please weight her dry.You might be surprised.
I am not Valenta's fan for many things, one of the reason, weight difference what model has in specs.and real weight.
Good looking plane though.
I will post video link.It flies great and fast.

It's cleary not a super-light layup. Super-tough to the touch though! The only other mouldy I've had that is this impervious to finger pressure was a Pike WR Extreme (double carbon). I don't mind the weight really, I'm not needing this as a thermal machine.

The only other Valenta plane I've had is the Dragonfly Strong, and, for what it is and cost, I can't say anything bad about that plane. The Volcano is a fraction of the cost of a European moulded F3x ship: one cannot expect Tragi or Pike quality at that price..

The Canopy is a full hollow-moulded piece . The canopy fits on a steel spike at the front, and is retained by a sliding steel rod that exits under the wing. There is a ball attached there to act as a handle. It comes fully installed.
