I have tested the ground to ground range up to 5km but I ran out of places to drive. Once I do a full test, I'll report back here. I would assume that the performance will be comparable to other UHF 70cm systems putting out 500mW and will be double systems running at 800-900MHz, all else being equal.

Is this using the same code as in Thomas Scherrer's system? Is the hardware different?

thanks,

Well, Thomas's system uses the code from my project (I wrote the code for both systems) but I have also made some changes to the code as I worked on it. However, the hardware is different, specifically the radio section is different.

This receiver is smaller than Thomas' (about one-third the size) and comes with 9-channels as standard. It will output PPM for those who want to use it with an MK (right no it auto-detects that if you are using less than 9-channels, the 9th channel automatically puts out PPM). It also uses narrower-bandwidth, which usually improves performance, and has a sensitive receiver, but no diversity. I think that at 433MHz, cross-polarization isn't as much of a problem as it is at 2.4GHz, for example. So it has some pros, and some cons. Both systems are good, but not compatible because mine is using a narrower band. However, Thomas's amplifier should work fine with this system.

At some later stage I will try to make this system able to work with Thomas' hardware as well, if possible. The radio chipset in use here is quite flexible.

I'm working on that now, it all depends on the cost of a few parts we are trying to get. (waiting for quotes) If we are able to get an honest price then we pass the savings to everyone.

Daniel did an outstanding job on the Dragon. Given what Daniel has already done, I am sure this long range system will be nothing short of AMAZING

Hi wavess,

I wish it did but Mark has his hands full at the moment so Daniel and myself decided to take this project outside of I.F. I'll keep everyone posted when and where to obtain these units.

John is right, this particular project is not being offered through IF - it's a little private venture of John and mine so do bear with us.
